Gotham reveals the early origins of the Dark Knight’s allies and enemies. The new television series focuses on rookie detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) with Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) fighting crime in the city that gave birth to Batman.
Robin Lord Taylor portrays Oswald Cobblepot as he’s on the path to becoming the Penguin. Cory Michael Smith is Edward Nygma before he becomes the Riddler. Camren Bicondova plays Selina Kyle as a teen thief before she’s Catwoman. The future Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze are scheduled to appear this premiere season. The Falcone and Moroni mobster familes are sure to appear.
Which other future Batman rogues should appear in the prequel series?
Here are our Gotham‘s Most Wanted:
Lonnie Machin The child prodigy with a knack for invention, infamous for his radical philosophy and rage against authority. The young man would become known as the terrorist known as Anarky. The villain is the focus of the next arc of Detective Comics.
Tommy Elliot is a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne. Tommy is the son a rich abusive father and frail mother but longs for his own independence and wealth. Tommy and Bruce play games of strategy and Tommy teaches Bruce to think like his opponents. Tommy orchestrated the accident that killed his father and resents Bruce for inheriting the Wayne fortune after his parents death. Tommy’s instability would continue and he would encounter a medical intern named Jonathan Crane (the future Scarecrow) while in a mental institution. Elliot would grow up to become a renowned surgeon and the masked mastermind known as Hush, who just made his New 52 debut in Batman Eternal.
The Lion. Before the Penguin and The Roman (Carmine Falcone) there was Rex Calabrese aka “The Lion.” In the comics the former mob boss now plots from behind bars in Blackgate Prison. A connection between Calabrese and Selina has just been revealed in Batman Eternal. The origin of that story arc could be explored here.
The Court of Owls are the stuff of nightmares literally. They even inspired a haunting children’s nursery rhyme. The secret society was created by current Batman team Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. There is no one Owl. You never know who is a member of this ruthless covert empire that has been manipulating Gotham City since the late 1800’s. Even children have been seen wearing the simple but scary owl mask when the group gathers to scheme or watch their victims. The Court captures child performers from traveling circuses to become their assassins – known as Talons. In every generation there is a leader called a Grandmaster. Uncovering the conspiracies of this secret society would be a perfect storyline for Gordon and Bullock.
Those are our most wanted (for now) for the new series Gotham. Which ally or villain do you want to see the back story of on the new show? Tell us in a comment below.
