Selina Kyle is no longer Catwoman?

She’s a Lioness stalking her way up the urban jungle as a new creative team takes over this week in Catwoman #35.

Writer Genevieve Valentine and artist Garry Brown (The Massive, Iron Patriot) take over Selina’s adventures after a shocking discovery in the pages of Batman Eternal.

Why is the femme fatale ditching the costume and code-name?

“Selina Kyle has discovered she’s part of a legacy she never knew before, and heir to the family business,” Valentine told io9.

“She decides to accept the position, both because she sees a chance to restore a ruined Gotham and because, deep down, Selina’s always played power games against herself. In this arc, she’ll be coming face to face with what she’s willing to do to keep her power, on a scale that could shake the whole city.”

If you remember Batman #28 we saw 6 months into the future. Selina was running the Gotham underworld and holding Stephanie Brown (aka The Spoiler) hostage when the Dark Knight and Bluebird (Harper Row) break in the vault of the new “Kingpin” of Gotham.

The journey of how Selina becomes ruler of the underworld continues this week in Catwoman #35.

Spoiler Alert:

If you don’t want to know Selina’s family secret (and haven’t been reading Batman Eternal) stop reading now.

Here it comes:

Selina was lured into Blackgate Prison for a face to face meeting with Rex Calabrese (aka The Lion) former Kingpin of Gotham City and her father.

Calabrese encouraged his daughter to accept her family legacy and seize control of the criminal underworld and bring order back to Gotham.
