Alexander is small but courageous with mighty dreams. The six-year-old boy from Everett, Washington lives with cystic fibrosis. Alexander fights this life threatening condition but for one day he had an adventure to take his mind of his illness.
Alexander got a hero’s salute this weekend thanks to Make-A-Wish volunteers and members of Comic Book Characters For Causes. Alexander loves Marvel’s The Avengers, especially Hulk and Captain America so Team Alex “Assembled” an Avengers themed shopping spree.
Alexander, his two sisters, older brother, mom, dad and grandmother were treated like Tony Stark with a limo ride from their home in Everett to their first destination: Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood.
What Alexander didn’t know was The Avengers were Assembled for him! Captain America, Thor, Tony Stark and Black Widow cosplayers helped greet Alex and kick off his special day at Build-A-Bear. Alexander chose to make a Star-Spangled bear in the spirit of the First Avenger, Captain America.
Since the Hulk is Alexander’s favorite hero the team made him their Bruce Banner/Hulk for the day. Alexander’s creativity and courageous spirit was celebrated with a unique piece of art all his own. Make-A-Wish team leader Carol Garza couldn’t invite the Hulk to a busy mall so she had her dad create a portrait showing Alex as the Green Goliath.
After Build-A-Bear the team moved on to the LEGO store for a behind the scenes tour and a chance for Alexander to continue his shopping spree. Alexander really believes in the slogan “Make Mine Marvel” as he filled his cart with Avengers inspired lego sets. A surprise stop on the tour was Kids Gap who happened to be having a super hero themed day.
A feast worthy of Thor and Asgardian warriors awaited us at Red Robin in Lynnwood. The staff has assembled a private dining area with Marvel balloons and party supplies. The final stop on Alexander’s adventure was Target of Lynnwood where Alexander went on a scavenger hunt looking for clues as he shopped.
The Avengers are Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and they mean the world to young Alexander. Armed with generous spirits and great costumes, the cosplayers of Comic Book Characters For Causes gave a super powered lift to a courageous young man.
