The secret showdown we never saw…until now.

Marvel shared new art from Death of X while announcing artist Aaron Kuder is now a Marvel exclusive creator.

It’s a huge first project for his Marvel reign: the start of the X-Men/Inhuman war and fate of Cyclops.

Death of X by writers Jeff Lemire (Extraordinary X-Men, Old Man Logan) and Charles Soule (Uncanny Inhumans) and Kuder will reveal what happened to Cyclops and Emma Frost in the eight months after the end of Secret Wars and the launch of the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now.

When the new era began we learned the Terrigen Mists that created new Inhumans was killing and sterilizing mutants. Storm’s team established X-Haven in Limbo as a refuge for mutants they rescued from what became known as M-Pox. We learned Cyclops died in battle with the Inhumans. Emma Frost was MIA and no one has mentioned her.

Death of X is the four-part prelude to Inhumans vs. X-Men event by Lemire, Soule and Leinil Yu in which the two races finally go to war for survival.

Looking at Kuder’s stunning covers it appears Death of X is not just a battle of two flagship teams but dissolution of Marvel’s two royal power couples. Cyclops and Emma Frost have lead the X-Men since Joss Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men run. The two lovers were torn apart during Avengers vs X-Men but remained teammates during the Brian Bendis run.

Black Bolt and Medusa are the King and Queen ruling over a Royal Family and Inhuman tribe. This couple’s long bond started cracking in Inhumanity when Black Bolt destroyed Attilan, unleashed the Terrigen Bomb in a battle with Thanos and left Medusa on her own to rebuild and save the new Inhumans.

In the aftermath of Secret Wars, Cyclops was presumed dead, Emma was missing and Medusa started a relationship with Johnny Storm.

What did Cyclops do?

Did someone kill Scott Summers?

Why did Medusa finally move on from Black Bolt?

The highly anticipated book will answer a ton of questions that have been burning for nearly a year and set the stage for a massive genetic war.
