There’s an amazing scene in X-Men #1 where Psylocke is portrayed as a psychic sniper. Armed with a telepathic bow and arrow, Betsy is poised to strike like Hawkeye in his first appearance in The Avengers film.

Betsy joins Storm, Kitty Pryde, Rogue and Rachel Grey in an all-female team on a mission to protect a mysterious orphan found by Jubilee. Writer Brian Wood tells Marvel.com how Betsy fits on this squad and her expanded powers as a “psychic ninja.”

“Psylocke’s primary role on this team is that of muscle, but in a very different way. My editor [Jeanine Schaefer] has unofficially tagged her “the point person” in the tactical Continue reading Brian Wood on Psylocke in X-MEN

X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST History in the Remaking

The Cuban Missile Crisis was interweaved with the struggle for mutant rights in X-Men: First Class. The Cold War and spread of Communism will be part of the drama of X-Men Days of Future Past. Director Bryan Singer revealed two photos via Twitter from the set of the upcoming sequel that help set for tone for the setting – 1973.

The first picture shows an actor playing President Richard Nixon in the Oval Office with the caption “Pivotal meeting” and the second includes “GOOD MORNING VIETNAM!!!”

The “Pivotal meeting” could be real history or comic book history  – this could be the meeting in which the U.S. government initiates Project Wideawake and begins the creation of the Sentinels – mutant hunting robots!

X-Men Days of Future Past will take place in 1974 and in the near future and arrives in 2014.

Storm Takes Command of Brian Wood’s X-MEN

Storm, Brian Wood, Olivier Coipel – it’s a creative marriage made in geek heaven!

X-Men #1 by Wood & Coipel launched this week with Ororo in command of an all-female team. Wood’s smashing take on the mutant windrider on the previous volume of X-Men last year was a hit with fans. I even declared Wood’s writing of Storm was the best since the Chris Claremont golden years.

The iconic X-woman recently split from Black Panther, joined the Jean Grey School, and is now sporting her Mohawk again. Wood tells Marvel.com how he found a voice for Storm that resonated with fans.

“This is one of those honest answers that don’t always come  across so well in interviews, but I don’t know. [Laughs] I remember when  I started writing X-MEN [in 2012], I said in an interview something about how I  was looking forward to figuring Storm out, to discovering my version of her  voice. In the end I went with my gut, and wrote her as a flawed but determined  leader, one not afraid to make controversial moves if the end goal is a noble  one. And it worked; the reaction to my Storm was beyond overwhelming.

I often write from the gut Continue reading Storm Takes Command of Brian Wood’s X-MEN

X-MEN Under Attack!

And this was just the prelude!?!

Marvel has been teasing The Hellfire Saga coming in June. This week Jason Aaron set the stage for a battle royale between the Jean Grey School and the Hellfire Academy in an action and surprise packed Wolverine and the X-Men #30.

I LOVED Broo from his first appearance in this series. The mutant alien had control over his sadistic urges and was a brilliant, eloquent nerd.  I felt sick when he was shot point blank and turned into a feral  savage like his alien brethren. (Do Brood even have a concept of family?)

The newly mutated Beast turns to a new foe (imagine Dr. Hannibal Continue reading X-MEN Under Attack!

In the comic books X-Men have fought against and with the Avengers. Wolverine joined the Avengers and fights with both teams.

Will there ever be an X-Men and Avengers movie? Hugh Jackman is hoping so and even has picked the Avenger he wants Wolverine to take on in a possible film!

“You know, obviously we have people from—one of the great things about this movie is that a lot of people from Marvel are here and it seems a lot more inclusive than it has been in the past. I don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes, but I think it’s fantastic,” Jackman tells Screen Rant, “I actually just asked the other day, I said, ‘I don’t know what the legal situation is, but why don’t these companies come together? Why isn’t it possible?’ Because personally, I would love to mix it up Continue reading Hugh Jackman Wants X-Men & Avengers Movie

Villain’s Return in X-MEN #1

The Women of the Atom star in a new X-Men #1 by Brian Wood this week. Jubilee, Storm, Psylocke, Rogue, Kitty Pryde, and Rachel Grey face an evil blast from the recent past.

Brian Wood told Comic Book Resources why Sublime (from the Grant Morrison New X-Men era) turns to the mutants for help:

“Without giving too much away, Sublime surrenders to the X-Men because he has a serious problem of his own that he can’t handle, and the X-Men, being his most formidable opponents, are his best source for help. We get right into that, as he walks onto the grounds of the Jean Grey School and surrenders to Rachel and Psylocke.

Elsewhere, the others are picking up Jubilee who calls in a panic, having Continue reading Villain’s Return in X-MEN #1
