X-Men vs. Inhumans – it’s on as just one of the battles in Civil War II.
The seeds of war were sown as soon as the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now emerged. In the aftermath of Secret Wars, we learned the Terrigen Cloud that was creating new Inhumans was attacking mutant DNA. Storm is leading her Extraordinary X-Men to rescue and take mutants to X-Haven while Magneto’s Uncanny X-Men are taking on a corporation profiting from the genetic crisis.
Cyclops is presumed dead after attacking the Inhumans. Beast is actually working with Medusa in Uncanny Inhumans.
As Civil War II erupts among the Avengers, the cold war between mutants and Inhumans explodes. Marvel confirmed Civil War II: X-Men, a four issue limited series by writer Cullen Bunn and artist Andrea Broccardo.
A new character appears that could impact the genetic conflict in the Inhumans’ favor. One X-Man takes action to save his people as other mutants to to prevent all-out war.
“Without giving away too many details for Civil War II, a new Inhuman has appeared,” Bunn told Marvel.com. “This Inhuman has a power set that could, should a conflict between the mutants and the Inhumans ever erupt, tip the scales in a big way. Some of the X-Men—I’m sure you can guess who—want to get their hands on this power to control it. But to try to obtain this power could very well start this bloody feud we’re talking about, and other X-characters want to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
Bunn writes Uncanny X-Men with Magneto leading his pro-active squad. The fan-favorite writer confirmed the Master of Magnetism seeks to control this Inhuman’s power and strikes setting mutants against mutants and hints at a big twist to watch for:
“But—and this is when it gets interesting—the Extraordinary team is taking action based on what they think Magneto will do, not what he has actually done.”
In the main Civil War II book by Brian Michael Bendis, a new character with a power that could shape the future will emerge and a major character will die. Captain Marvel and Iron Man are the two leaders of opposing forces. Is the new Inhuman character the same one that launches the big conflict? If the X-Men and Inhumans survive their own battle which side will they choose?
Civil War II begins in a special Free Comic Book Day issue this May.
