X-Men are switching sides in Civil War II and paving the way for the return of a mutant powerhouse missing in action since the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now began.
Terrigenesis that creates new Inhumans is killing mutants. The X-Men/Inhumans cold war is set to explode. The emergence of a new Inhuman with the power to see the future has bitterly divided the Avengers and now the X-Men.
Writer Cullen Bunn packed Civil War II: X-Men #2 with betrayals, secret missions and a big hint that a lost X-Man is making a big comeback.
Before we discuss this week’s big events and what it could mean to the future of the X-Books here’s a SPOILER ALERT!
If you have not read Civil War II: X-Men #2 yet stop reading now!
Seriously.
OK.
Here it comes.
Ulysses has visions of the future. Storm and her Extraordinary X-Men are working with Captain Marvel and her Avengers who see this young Inhuman’s power of “predictive justice” as a way to prevent crime, terrorism and tragedy.
Magneto sees this new Inhuman’s power as a threat to could further damn the mutant race to extinction. In the last issue Nightcrawler betrayed Storm and joined Magneto’s side.
There’s something sneaky in New Attilan!
Fantomex (working for Magneto) and Gambit (working for Storm) invaded Queen Medusa’s citadel to get information on Ulysses and a brawl starts alerting the Inhumans. Fantomex and Mystique have been secretly working for Magneto to get information on the corporation profiting from the Terrigen crisis and the new Hellfire Club.
Upon learning of Magneto’s spy and secret invasion, Psylocke leaves to join Storm to stop Magneto from attacking the Inhumans. She’s bitter about the Master of Magnetism secretly working with her ex.
Magneto declares there are other telepaths out there.
Which telepath could Erik be referring to?
Could this mean Emma Frost will finally make her first appearance since Secret Wars?
Emma and Scott Summers were MIA when the new X-books were announced. It was later revealed that Cyclops was killed after attacking the Inhumans in the mysterious eight month period after Secret Wars and the launch of the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now titles.
One of the big mysteries in Uncanny X-Men (also by Bunn) is the return of the Hellfire Club. Frost was formerly the White Queen and enemy of the X-Men. Could Frost be back to her wicked ways or just form an alliance with Magneto over their shared agendas for the mutant race…while ticking off her rival Storm?
One other possibility? Rachel Grey, the daughter of Scott Summers and the original late Jean Grey has also been MIA since the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now launch.
Civil War II: X-Men #2 is out now.
Apocalypse Wars reaches a finale in Uncanny X-Men then the new Hellfire Club arc begins.
