X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Party Like It’s 1973

X-Men: Days of Future Past will unite the cast of the original trilogy (set in the near future) and X-Men: First Class (set in the Cold War 1960’s) but when will the new film take place?

Cue the disco and glam rock!

Director Bryan Singer tweeted this photo showing a CIA report on mutation by Charles Xavier dated 1973.

The film is based on the Chris Claremont story in which X-Men from a dark future send one of their own into the past to rally the earlier X-Men to prevent an assassination that will lead to a government crackdown on mutants – including the creation of Sentinels!

Could this mean Singer’s April 1st tweet about Lady Gaga playing Dazzler was not really April Fool’s? (Fingers crossed!)

Dazzler (Alison Blaire) was created by Claremont in the final days of the disco era and her mutant power was to convert sound into light which she could use as lasers to as a “dazzle” effect that she used in her stage shows as a singer.

X-MEN Showdown Round Two!

Who says you can’t go home again? It’s easy when you have a demon sorceress/mutant teleporter on your side!

Cyclops, Magik, Magneto and Emma Frost arrived at the Jean Grey School in All-New X-Men #10 last week. Scott welcomed the staff and students of Wolverine’s school to join the new Xavier School. Some of the Jean Grey School students agreed to join Cyclops and the issue ended with a cliffhanger:

Will a member of Yesterday’s X-Men join Scott’s revolution?

This week in Uncanny X-Men #4 the action continues but will we learn who Continue reading X-MEN Showdown Round Two!

Is This Beast from X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

BHGv8ktCYAAlKy3.jpg largeDid director Bryan Singer reveal a first look at Beast from X-Men: Days of Future Past via Twitter? The director’s feed has been THE source for casting announcements and photos from the set.

This picture was accompanied by this quote:

“Many a monster wears the form of a man; it is better of the two to have the heart of a man & the form of a monster”

This could be a makeup test.

Nicholas Hoult will reprise his role as the younger Henry McCoy in the prequel/sequel that unites actors from X-Men: First Class and the original X-Men trilogy. The story is set Continue reading Is This Beast from X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

X-MEN Showdown!

All-New X-Men #10 courtesy Marvel

All-New X-Men #10 is the showdown we’ve been waiting for since Brian Michael Bendis took on the Children of the Atom. Cyclops, Emma Frost, Magneto and Magik arrive at the Jean Grey School to recruit Logan’s students and staff away…to the new Xavier School.

Wolverine does not take it well.

There’s a passionate debate over what it means to be an X-Man, who shares responsibility for Avengers vs. X-Men and the Professor’s death. There’s a lot of talk but it’s so masterfully written and drawn. This All-New versus Uncanny X-Men is not an action packed showdown but an intense, impassioned, thought-provoking conflict on what it means to be a mutant in the post-AvX world.

Beast may have brought the young X-Men from the past into the present to change Scott but the future shock is affecting the once “innocent” X-Men in unexpected ways.

Mystique and Sabretooth continue their violent crime spree putting the mutant conflict on the front burner of S.H.I.E.L.D. and we’re left with a cliffhanger that made mutant jaws drop! Will an X-Man switch sides or this just a new twist of Bendis’s plots within plots?

The mystery of Magik!

The mutant once called “little snowflake” has become a she-devil that’s made life hell for her fellow mutants and older brother, Colossus.

During Avengers vs. X-Men – Illyana, Emma Frost, Cyclops, Colossus and Namor were possessed by the Phoenix Force. All of the hosts and Magneto have paid a heavy price and their mutant powers have been twisted and weakened. Only Illyana survived unscathed. Magik is even more powerful. Why?

The dark shadowy Continue reading UNCANNY X-MEN Previews Magik Mystery!

Can the X-Men kill the mutant who looks like a dead friend? The Age of Apocalypse Nightcrawler and Beast teamed up in X-Termination #1 to try and return to their dimension – even it means destroying our own!

Wolverine’s street team (Gambit, Karma, Iceman, Northstar) went into action but as worlds started to collide Dazzler’s X-Treme X-Men team joined the chaos.

The crossover blasts into Astonishing X-Men #60 this week with Wolverine versus Continue reading X-Termination Hits Astonishing X-Men

All-New X-Men, Kitty Pryde in Control

Mystique and Sabretooth are showcased in all their mutant malevolence on the cover of this week’s All-New X-Men #9 but Kitty Pryde is the star of this latest chapter by Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen so I chose this commanding cover to issue 6 for this story.

I remember way back when Kitty was calling herself Sprite (or was it Ariel? She changed code names and costumes so much back then!) and Kitty didn’t join to join the X-Babies (aka the original New Mutants.) The phasing mutant may have had trouble finding her identity then but Kitty Pryde is confident in her new role as teacher in All-New X-Men and it’s amazing to see and a joy to read. Jason Aaron started the transformation of Kitty when he made her co-headmaster of the Jean Grey School. Under Brian Michael Bendis, Kitty has assumed the role of teacher/mentor/taskmaster to the original X-Men who Beast brought into the future.
I love seeing Kitty being cool and confident as she drills tactics Continue reading All-New X-Men, Kitty Pryde in Control
