Deadpool Video Game

The merc with a mouth is exploding from Marvel Comics to his own video game. Deadpool of Uncanny X-Force and his own comic series announced his next big move on Marvel.com:

“Hey suits, listen up ‘cause I’ve got some pretty sweet news to break. I, DEADPOOL, today announced that I’ve…(ahem…we’ve)…yes, right…WE’VE decided to make a kick-butt, butt-kicking new video game based on the awesome-ing-ist super hero ever known to man (and woman, if you know what we’re sayin’) starring yours truly, ME, DEADPOOL. I know, I know…I pee’d myself a little with excitement just now too (you call that ‘a little?’).

Some of you may know me as the Merc with a Mouth (or the mercenary for hire), what can I say? I have skills! (You know who else has skills?) High Moon Studios has skills, and I hired them to make my game, because they’re awesome, and so am I. But they’re not as awesome as I am, if that’s what you’ve heard. (Who’d you hear that from?) (Wait, listen…you smell something?)

Anywho, where was I? Oh yeah, ME, and my game “Deadpool! With some cashola I ‘borrowed’ (ha!!! riiight…‘borrowed’) from Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (blah blah blah), and some of the big cheeses (mmmmm…cheeeeese) from Marvel Entertainment, my “Deadpool” game will feature all of my favorite things–katanas (check), big guns (and not just these amazing arm muscles) (check), crazy poop-your-pants action (check), hot chicks (check), maybe some of my X-Men friends (well, depending on what they’re wearing), burritos, bouncy houses and of course ME!!! (check) (check) And check!

And now, a quote from me about my game:

“I, Deadpool, ‘hired’ Peter Della Penna and his physically embarrassing team at High Moon Studios for two reasons: First, because of their close proximity to Mexico so I can get fresh, authentic chimichangas delivered daily,” said Deadpool, newly self-appointed Head of High Moon Studios, and Supreme Commander of PR, Marketing, Legal, and just about everything I want to be in charge of at Activision Publishing, Inc. “Second, if High Moon can make an amazing game about big transforming robots look cool, then they can surely make me look amazing in a third-person action video game, from all angles (seriously Peter…my bottom is my good side, so don’t screw this up).”

And now, a quote from that other guy at High Moon Studios:

“We weren’t actually planning on making a Deadpool game,” said Peter Della Penna, formerly Head of High Moon Studios and now second in command.  “But,Deadpool came by the studio one day, said he was taking over, and that if I didn’t hire Marvel writer Daniel Way pronto and make the most amazing Deadpool video game, he’d break both of our arms and beat us to death with them. I have kids, so we’re making the game.”

Speaking of ME, for your viewing pleasure (or other pleasure – hehe) check out this awesome teaser trailer and find out more information for my new “Deadpool” video game at this web thingy www.deadpoolgame.com, and be sure to follow me on what’s-yer-face at www.facebook.com/deadpoolgame and twitter.com/realdeadpool.

Thank you Mr. Deadpool.

I’m a huge fan of Deadpool: The Circle Chase from 1997 way before Wade Wilson’s own series, guest appearances and his role in X-Men: Origins: Wolverine when Ryan Reynolds brought Wilson to life on the big screen.

courtesy Marvel.com

Jessica Biel is making hers Marvel in The Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman. Biel will play the Viper/Victoria according to Deadline. Biel played Abbie vampire hunter Abbie Whistler in Blade:Trinity and will co-star with Colin Farrell and Kate Beckinsale in the upcoming remake of Total Recall.

Viper is the green-haired villainess who would become Madame Hydra. The criminal operative and terrorist leader has been an on-again and off-again love interest of Logan and a formidable foe in X-Men history. If Viper is in the film could Madripoor can a location in the story?

The Wolverine is said to be based on the Chris Claremont/Frank Miller story of Logan’s time in Japan when he falls for the daughter of a crime lord. Lord Shingen, Silver Samurai, Lady Mariko and the Ronin known as Yukio have been cast.

Madripoor is a fictional country where Logan owned a bar and came into conflict with Viper among many other master criminals. The island nation in southeast Asia is a nest of crime, smuggling, and corruption. Viper gained control of the nation and forced Logan into marraige.

AvX Death and Consequences?

AvX Consequences #1 courtesy Marvel.com

We know it wasn’t going to have a happy ending for everybody? Marvel is now teasing AvX Consequences by Kieron Gillen. Senior Editor Nick Lowe tells Marvel.com  “It deals with the effects of AvX on both the X-side and the A-side!” and that he could not comment further “without spoiling AvX!”

“It is pretty hardcore. If you like what Kieron’s doing on ‘Uncanny,’ this book will blow your mind,” Lowe continued.

“‘AvX’ ends with a bang, it’s going to be very controversial,” says Editor in Chief Axel Alonso. “A lot of you will be very pissed at us, a lot of you will be clapping,” he said, mentioning one team will deal with the question of new leadership.

Does this mean the death of Cyclops? Cyke was seen on the Joe Quesada Marvel NOW! promo art but that doesn’t mean it’s the current Scott Summers. Gillen has been writing the flagship X-book for a while and there’s no mention yet of his role in the Marvel NOW! revamp. With Havok taking a leadership rile on the Uncanny Avengers, Uncanny X-Men ending to make way for All-New X-Men starring the original five students of Xavier and no word on the future of Scott and Emma could this signal the end of Cyclops?

I’ve been playing with the idea of Emma Frost’s Avenging X-Men. This is just speculation but let me know what you think? Do you want to see Cyke killed at the end of AvX?

Marvel Month of Change: Nine Books Ending

Brace yourselves longtime Marvel fans! Sweeping changes: New books. New creative teams. Final arcs for favorite creators and…cancelled books. Marvel NOW! means new beginnings and endings this October. The Marvel solicitations reveal the huge changes coming.

Avengers #31 marks the final arc by Brian Michael Bendis with Iron Man finding a signal leading to “one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in Avengers history” while New Avengers #31 by Bendis sees the return of one of their deadliest foes.

Rick Remender picks up previous storylines (before the AvX crossover) in Secret Avengers #32 and #33 as a new Masters of Evil attack and The Rise of the Descendants featuring the debut of a hero corrupted: the Black Ant.

Captain America #19 courtesy Marvel

This month marks the end of fan favorite writers on marquee franchises. Captain America #19 sees the return of artist Steve Epting for Ed Brubaker’s grand finale issue. This is definitely the end of a major creative era for Steve Rogers. The Mighty Thor #22 is the final issue as Matt Fraction wraps up the Everything Burns epic and Kieron Gillen bids Kid Loki goodbye as Journey Into Mystery ends too. Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca ends their epic run on Invincible Iron Man with the final issue. The Jason Aaron penned The Incredible Hulk ends with #15. Jonathan Hickman’s epic run on Marvel’s First Family is over. Fantastic Four #611 and FF #23 are the final issues.

Marvel’s mutant titles are evolving too. Uncanny X-Men #20 is final issue and fallout of AvX but does this mean the end of Kieron Gillen’s time with the mutants? Marvel has said All-New X-Men by Bendis will be the new flagship X-book.

Uncanny X-Men #20 courtesy Marvel.com

Havok will lead the new Uncanny Avengers and the X-Factor #245 solicitation may be a clue as that he’s leaving Peter David’s book. It’s described as the last of five issues that will change the book and lineup. New Mutants will end with issue 50 this month. X-Men Legacy #275 will be the final issue. Rogue is joining Uncanny AvengersX-Men, Wolverine and the X-Men, Uncanny X-Force appear to be continuing or starting new story arcs with no hint that the books are ending but stay tuned.

Marvel has said the Marvel NOW! relaunch will continue through February 2013 so we can expect more cancelled books and hopefully announcements of favorite creators on relaunched books.

Emperor Kallark’s son known as Kid Gladiator has been at the Jean Grey School under the watchful eye of Shiar warrior Warbird.

Warbird is part of Marjorie Liu’s Astonishing X-Men arc. past. This issue promises to reveal more of Warbird’s past and a date for Kitty Pryde?

Wolverine and the X-Men #13 courtesy Marvel.com

Here’s hoping Gladiator survives! Jonathan Hickman’s new Avengers series is said have a huge cast and he favors the old school cosmic epics so maybe Gladiator or Warbird might turn up on his book.  And given the cosmic direction Marvel movies are going maybe we’ll see the Shi’ar Empire in an Avengers sequel or if a Guardians of the Galaxy movie happens?

Marvel NOW! Quesada, Alonso and Brevoort Speak Part 1

Marvel NOW! by Joe Quesada courtesy Marvel.com

Marvel NOW! means big changes, new titles and new creative teams. Fans may be frothing with excitment, fuming or just puzzled at the new direction. From October 2012 to February 2013 Marvel is launching a new title including Uncanny Avengers by Rick Remender, All-New X-Men by Brian Michael Bendis and Avengers by Jonathan Hickman with more to be announced.

Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort reveal what to expect on Marvel.com today. I’ve picked answers to the big questions I think are on the minds of fans like myself.

What about continuity and Marvel past?

“A lot of characters and a lot of their stories are starting story arcs and different status quos right around this time. I know there are a lot of people out there who are lapsed readers, or future readers who don’t necessarily know exactly how to jump into comics because the idea of decades and decades of continuity is daunting to them. Now mind you, they should never have that fear regardless, but for us we’re putting a flag in the sand and saying “Listen, if you’ve had that problem before, just take a flier on us. Try Marvel NOW!, because we are not wiping the slate clean—we’re just trying to tell these stories from a clean point of view and allowing a good jumping-off point for new readers,” said Quesada.

  Is this a reboot?

“It is not a reboot. We don’t travel back in time, into the future, or to an alternate universe. Marvel NOW! respects the investment—emotional and financial—that long-term fans have made in the Marvel Universe, and this story takes place in a Marvel Universe they can recognize, one that grows out of Avengers Vs. X-Men. That said, these stories will be accessible to lapsed readers—the guy who likes, say, Captain America, but doesn’t know where to start—and anyone who saw a Marvel movie or heard the buzz about Marvel NOW!” replied Alonso

The role of digital technology in Marvel NOW!

There [are] really two answers to this, and I think both of them are right. It’s going to play a tremendously huge role, and I don’t know. And the reason I don’t know is because technology is changing every single—oh wait, it just changed again. It changes every second. There’s so much new stuff coming out that I can’t tell you what’s going to be the rage 12 months from now with technology. What I can tell you is that if it’s something that is applicable to things that we do for a living, we’re going to try it. And we’re going to see if it works for us. So it is the great unknown, it is really exciting, but it’s also something that we’re not going to be left behind wondering why we didn’t get involved in the world of digital much earlier. You know, we‘ve been involved in the digital world for a long, long time—longer than most publishers—so we are already ahead of the curve and we’re already getting a sense of what the readership is really thinking, what they’re not thinking, because ultimately it’s about the readers. It’s about making their experience a better one, a more convenient one, and really much more entertaining,” revealed Quesada.

What does Quesada’s preview image say about the characters of Marvel NOW!

“Well I think you can certainly glom several things from that piece. Number one, costume changes. Number two, you’ll see characters there that you wouldn’t necessarily think would be in a piece like that. I think readers can assume that we’re going to make a big push with certain books and create certain books that involve a lot of these new characters. And also just changes to certain status quos based upon costume design and what happened. Even Cyclops. He’s very prominent in that piece, He looks very different, but definitely prominent. And who knows if that’s even Scott in that costume? But the goal was to sort of give a quick, encapsulating view of a piece that says “Well, it’s going to be different.” Quesada answered.

For their entire interviews here’s the Marvel.com link. Stay tuned for more from Marvel’s big three when it comes to new creative teams in an upcoming post.
