Wolverine is a man with many titles and star of many comic book titles! The new volume of Wolverine kicks off this week by Paul Cornell and the legendary Alan Davis. This is Cornell’s return to the House of Ideas and he talked with Marvel.com about his take on the fan favorite X-Man.

“This is the series that gets into what makes James Logan tick, that shows him Continue reading WOLVERINE Man of the People?

I had to get the picture of this Kid Apocalypse cosplayer at Emerald City Comicon last weekend. As I would learn this mutant’s power is to rap! Kid Apocalypse was filming a music video at the Seattle con featuring an uncanny crew of X-Men cosplayers!

Behold Kid Apocalypse: Came From the Chain! Here’s the Youtube link. Check out a cameo from the Kid’s creator, Uncanny X-Force and now Uncanny Avengers writer, Rick Remender!

As you can tell, the Kid knows his X-Men comic book history. Here’s a link to download kidapocalypse.bandcamp.com.

I’m looking forward to the sequel!

Who Should Direct James Bond 24?

Sam Mendes will not return for James Bond 24. I named the Oscar winning director of Skyfall the Best Franchise Savior in My Geek Oscars.

The director of the next Bond film has a daunting task after the huge critical praise and billion dollar box office success of Skyfall. Mendes set the next 007 film up for success with his introduction of a new M, Miss Moneypenny and a new Q. The next Bond film has all the trappings even screenwriter John Logan is back to pen the new adventure. Who should direct the next James Bond film?

Let’s eliminate the obvious choice. Christopher Nolan has said he would not consider taking on 007 unless there was an opportunity to start fresh with a new actor in the role. Daniel Craig is keeping the tux.

Now here are my 7 directors for 007: Continue reading Who Should Direct James Bond 24?

Gambit’s New Lady and Rogue Reunion

For longtime X-Men fans Gambit and Rogue will always be their favorite couple (as you can see by these Emerald City Comicon cosplayers) but Remy has been flirting with danger in his solo series by James Asmus and Clay Mann. Gambit’s globetrotting adventures have him crossing paths with a female thief named Joelle. Asmus talked with Marvel.com about Remy’s new partner in crime.

“My editor Daniel Ketchum had liked the idea of bringing  in a thieving lady counterpart to Gambit. I was particularly interested in  capturing the energy that made me so intrigued with Gambit in his early years:  the fact that you weren’t really sure if you trusted his motivations, or even  what he said, but he was able to charm and disarm those around him.

We’ve learned a lot about Gambit since then, but I thought that creating that  push-pull attraction and question of trust with another character would let me  revive part of what I loved in early Gambit stories. From there, the actual  character of Joelle has evolved some as we’ve gone, for a lot of reasons. But  the core idea behind her and the answers to her major mysteries haven’t changed.”

The writer confirms Rogue will guest star and explains her connection with Remy:

“I think at the moment, she’s very worried about the trajectory he’s on. I’m looking at their relationship through a few personal  lenses. I’ve been on both sides of break-ups where one person’s afraid they  might’ve lit a self-destructive fuse in the other. These two will always care  about each other, but it’s never been easy. And I think she can’t help but be  curious if this mysterious new woman, Joelle, is pulling Gambit irreparably  away.”

For the entire interview and more of Mann’s art here’s the Marvel.com link.

In case you’re haven’t checked this series out yet, think of this book as Remy cutting loose and sharpening his criminal skills – stealing from the bad guys of course. Spider-Man villain Tombstone appears in the current issue.

Tony Stark faces the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 this May but right now in the comic books the Armored Avenger is deep trouble in deep space.

Godkiller continues this week in Iron Man #7! Tony Stark invented a weapon to contain the Phoenix Force in Avengers vs. X-Men. We know how that turned out! Will Tony pay the ultimate price for this cosmic crime? Kieron Gillen’s new arc introduces a new alien race that are related to the Shi’ar. While the Shi’ar Empire wanted to wipe out the threat of the Phoenix the Shi’ard worshiped it.

Uncanny Avengers vs. Apocalypse!

The Uncanny Avengers become targets of the classic X-Men villain Apocalypse in the next arc. The immortal mutant played a huge role in Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force run even though he didn’t appear in his iconic form. Remender tells Marvel.com how Apocalypse factors into the next arc Ragnarok Now.

“Well the important thing was to find a way to mix the A and the X. And that was a lot of work. So I threw out most of my outline for the sequel to the Dark Angel Saga. And I kept the four most important things that I was excited about and the things that most closely tie in to characters like Wolverine or Sunfire, characters that have been tainted by this and manipulated by [Apocalypse]. So as I was building [the story], it was important to find how it was an X-Men story and also Continue reading Uncanny Avengers vs. Apocalypse!

CABLE AND X-FORCE Family Values

A book for Hope Summers fans to watch out for! Cable faces his daughter, the mutant messiah of Avengers vs. X-Men in this week’s Cable and X-Force #8.

Hope Summers has been “exiled” from the flagship X-titles. I wanted to share some of writer Dennis Hopeless’s take on the Summers family dynamic. He says he’s explore Nathan’s relationship with the girl he raised and his father, Cyclops.

“I think in both cases, the relationship is hard because of how similar the fathers are to their children. Hope drives Cable nuts because she’s just like him. She’s headstrong and self-righteous, quick to grab a gun and solve every problem herself. Cable knows she learned it by watching him but wants his daughter to have an easier life than he did. Also, he trained her for life in a post-apocalyptic Continue reading CABLE AND X-FORCE Family Values

ECCC Marvel Next Big Thing

Some of Marvel’s fan favorite creators delivered some big news and (kinda) answered some burning questions in the Marvel: Next Big Thing panel at Emerald City Comicon.

Here are some quick hits:

Captain Marvel will crossover with Avengers Assemble kicking off with a one shot called Avengers: Enemy Within #1 all by Kelly Sue DeConnick in May.

FF: What happens when Goth kids join the Future Foundation? I think that was a teaser and not a joke but the rapid-fire wit of Matt Fraction you never know! He did confirm he just wrapped a Medusa centered issue.

Hawkeye: Fraction will unleash assassins on the Avenging Archer, we’ll meet his “loser brother” and see Clint Barton on vacation.

Morbius: Joe Keatinge said Spectacular Spider-Man will guest star in issues 6 and 7.

Deadpool: Gerry Duggan said issue 7 will be a stand-alone issue and Wade an Tony Stark will cross paths.

Ultimates: Sam Humphries teased the birth of the West Coast Ultimates! The team roster introduces Ultimate versions of Wonder Man, Tigra, Vision, Black Knight and Quake.

Uncanny X-Force will have a showdown with Bishop in the subways under Los Angeles. Humphries said he’ll reveal where the time-lost, rogue X-Man has been then Fantomex times three! Then Humphries a big major villain that longtime X-Men fans will be familiar with

Indestructible Hulk: Mark Waid revealed how a one-shot with Walt Simonson turned into a major arc with the Green Goliath and Thor fighting Frost Giants. Later Waid addressed the degrees of rage you might get from when the Hulk…Hulks out!

“The Hulk you during that transformation is dependent on Banner’s mental state at the time when the transformation happens. So sometimes you get cookie monster hulk, sometimes you get a whirling cyclone of death, and you never know which one you’re gonna get…Banner. I could write Banner the rest of my life. He’s an untapped well of potential, that guy.”
