Fan Expo Vancouver Artist Duel Preview!

Fan Expo Vancouver is this weekend. Stan Lee, Nichelle Nichols, Michael Rooker, Michael Hogan and Sean Astin are among the celebrities can meet but there’s some extra fun for comic book fans.

Sketch Duels are a great interactive take on the panel in which two or more comic book artists create their work of art in a friendly competition while answering fan questions during the hour and one lucky fan walks away with the unique sketch.

This year’s scheduled sketch duels are:

Stephen Sadowski (JSA, Hawkman, Fairest) vs. Phil Jimenez (Fairest, New X-Men, Wonder Woman)Saturday at 1pm

Steve Epting (Captain America, New Avengers) vs. Alex Maleev (Daredevil: End of Day) Saturday at 4pm

David Finch (Batman, The Dark Knight, Justice League of America) vs. Bob Layton (Iron Man) vs. Kaare Andrews (Ultimate Comics X-Men) Sunday at 1pm.

The family reunion you’ve been waiting for!

Cyclops face to face with his son in Cable and X-Force #7 out this week!

Scott and his revolution team recruited new students away from Logan’s school in the All-New X-Men #10 and Uncanny X-Men #4 crossover by Brian Michael Bendis.

Will Scott try to lure a member of Cable’s crew to his new Xavier School?

Here’s what writer Dennis Hopless says of the Cyclops/Cable dynamic:

“They’re both arrogant tacticians who prefer giving orders to explaining themselves. Their relationship is more complicated because Scott didn’t get the opportunity to raise Nate. Cable respects Cyclops, but as a peer not a parent. And yet, nature beat out nurture in this case because Scott ended up with a son who shares his most irritating personality traits.”

This will be the first time Cyclops and Cable have reunited since Scott formed the new Uncanny X-Men. How will Nathan respond?

Nichelle Nichols will be part of the stellar celebrity roster at Fan Expo Vancouver! As Lieutenant Uhura on the original Star Trek series, Nichols became a trail-blazing television icon as the first black actress with lead role on television and was first inter-racial kiss on television.

I saw the stunning Nichols help NASA celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the World’s Fair and the Space Needle by performing the Star Trek theme song with the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra in Seattle last year in a tribute of song, dance and astronauts.

Mike Deodato will join Jonathan Hickman on the Avengers and New Avengers. After showing off the acclaimed artist’s upcoming work spotlighting Shang-Chi and his teammates in Hong Kong, Marvel shows a showdown that’s been brewing since Avengers vs. X-Men!

When Namor was possessed by the Phoenix Force he led an invasion of Wakanda that devastated the Black Panther’s homeland and people. When Hickman launched New Avengers #1 it was T’Challa gathering a new Illuminati to battle a cosmic threat to Earth.

Check out the cover of New Avengers #7! Namor may have been under the influence of the Phoenix during the Wakanda invasion but the Sub-Mariner has always been and will be an arrogant, quick tempered royal. It looks like the tension between T’Challa and Namor will explode in this issue!

I feel a little uneasy right now after having just read Thanos Rising #1. Jason Aaron and Simone Bianchi actually made me feel sympathy and empathy for the most cold-blooded, ruthless killer in the Marvel Universe.

The Demi-God who worships Death comes to the planet of his birth and flashes back to his birth. Is a villain born evil, does he grew up that way or is manipulated into his deadly legacy?
