Will the Phoenix rise again on the big screen?

Fans swooned at the image of the Phoenix in X2 but Bryan Singer left the franchise before exploring the Phoenix Saga in The Last Stand. The emergence of the Phoenix in Jean and her fate came on another director’s watch.

In Days of Future Past Singer helmed the film that rewrote history and gave Jean Grey and Scott Summers (Famke Janssen, James Marsden) a happier ending.

With a young Scott and Jean (Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner) does Singer want to tell the Phoenix story he wanted in X-Men: Apocalypse and future sequels? Continue reading PHOENIX In X-MEN: APOCALYPSE?

Mystique is tied to one of the big new mysteries in Cullen Bunn’s new Uncanny X-Men series.

We may have been given a huge clue in this week’s second issue.

Terrigen Mists are killing mutants and sterilizing genes. The mutant race is on the fast track to extinction thanks to the genetic phenomenon that’s creating new Inhumans.

Storm’s team is rescuing mutants from the Mists and providing them safety in X-Haven. Magneto is leading his own team with a very pro-active mission to save mutants from new enemies.

A corporation is profiting from the crisis by providing a different kind of safe haven to mutants for a price. Mutants agree to be frozen in suspended animation until there’s a cure or the Terrigen is gone.

Magneto’s team broke the mutants out of of the transports while Mystique is investigating the Someday corporation in a different way…but who is she working for? Continue reading MYSTIQUE’S X-MEN MYSTERY

No hero is safe in X-Men: Apocalypse!

As X-fans await the next chapter in Fox’s franchise director Bryan Singer has a warning:

“I’ll kill any of those characters any day I want. They’re all fair game,” he joked in a set visit according to The Hollywood Reporter Heat Vision, referring to characters in the final scene of Days of Future Past. “Anything can happen.”

The last film reset continuity, erased the events of The Last Stand, and gave us a happy ending for the adult Scott, Jean, Storm and more mutant heroes.

But don’t count on it staying that way when an ancient mutant (Oscar Isaac) rises to strike. Continue reading BRYAN SINGER On KILLING in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

Jeff Lemire packed a ton in his first Extraordinary X-Men arc. In five issues the Children of the Atom faced a new genetic threat, an old adversary and demons of Limbo as Storm assembled a new team, discovered the shocking truth about Cyclops and was guided (or haunted) by a ghost of the past.

Every issue so far left a ton of questions. This week’s thrilling finale of the first arc set the new status quo for the X-Men to the world with unmissable future story possibilities.

The Terrigen Mists are killing mutants. Cyclops attacked the Inhumans and now he’s dead. Storm assembled Magik, Colossus, Iceman, young Jean Grey and Old Man Logan to rescue mutants from the Terrigen threat. The search for Nightcrawler led to Mister Sinister and his new Marauders.

Sinister unveiled a shocker last issue but Lemire was only getting started with the shock and awe. The final fate of Cyke is not what we thought. Continue reading EXTRAORDINARY X-MEN CYCLOPS SHOCKER

In this week’s chapter, Ororo, Old Man Logan, Jean and Iceman went to rescue Nightcrawler, Colossus and Magik from Sinister and his new Marauders.

But is Sinister the “salvation” for the mutants? Continue reading EXTRAORDINARY X-MEN INHUMAN SHOCKER

Every Christmas we present favorite holiday moments with the mutants but this year is “extra” special.

Let’s go back to Uncanny X-Men #365 by Steven Seagle and Chris Bachalo with a Leinil Yu cover. In A Ghost of X-mas Past, Colossus is haunted by the ghost of his sister, Illyana on Christmas Eve.

In this 1999 issue the Russian mutant is in mourning after his baby sister dies from the Legacy Virus. The X-Man (and artist) is haunted by a ghost who inspires his paintings of an Ice Princess without a face. The spirit only says one word to Colossus:

“Remember” Continue reading X-MEN CHRISTMAS HAUNTING
