Director James Gunn revealed Nathan Fillion will have a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy but no the role some fans assumed.

The director said the star of Castle, Serenity and Gunn’s Super and Slither will have a “small, fun cameo he did as a favor to me,” via Twitter.

He later confirmed Fillion is not playing Nova.

The Nova Corps (an interstellar police force) are a big part of the film. Glenn Close and John C. Reilly play members of the Corps.

Richard Ryder is the original Nova from the comics – the first Earth man to join the corps who become known as the Human Rocket.

In comics, Brian Michael Bendis will explore the fate of Ryder. A human teen named Sam Alexander is the star of the Nova comic book series.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1.
