MUTANTS For THE GIFTED For Your Consideration

Fox’s X-Men franchise evolves with a new television series featuring characters from comics canon.

The Gifted will feature the adventures of a family on the run after the parents learn their children are mutants. Lauren and Andy Strucker and their parents will encounter some familiar characters from comics: Lorna Dane/Polaris, Blink and John Proudstar/Thunderbird/Warpath and a new character called Eclipse.

What other mutants from the X-Men canon could appear in the upcoming show?

The Struckers and other mutants “don’t know if the X-Men of Brotherhood still exist” as they run from Sentinel Services. Who else could join the adventure?

Here are mutants for your consideration:

Armor

Hisako Ichiki is a young girl who aspired to become a X-Man. Hisako’s power is to generate an exoskeleton body armor of psionic energy that gives her enhanced strength and invulnerability. A creation of Joss Whedon and John Cassaday, Armor became a protégé of Kitty Pryde. Hisako and Wolverine teamed up when Logan was caught in a psychic trap crafted by telepath Quentin Quire aka Kid Omega. Hisako’s powers have an intriguing back story but ultimately she’s a strong female hero in the Whedon tradition.

Morph

Benjamin Deeds is a shy, gay teen with the chameleon-like powers created by Brian Michael Bendis. He doesn’t completely shapeshift like Mystique. Benjamin morphs into those around him looking like them and giving off pheromones to calm those he morphs into. Benjamin’s power and search for identity (he never wanted to be a X-Man) makes him an interesting character. Morph’s power is more subtle but powerful as he proved when he easily morphed his way into a S.H.I.E.L.D. vault. Morph is currently in the cast of the new Generation X comic book.

Oya

Idie Okonkwo is a Nigerian teenager created by Matt Fraction and Kieron Gillen and one of the “Five Lights” aka new mutants born after the mutant gene was ignited in the human race after a dormant time. Idie’s ability to manipulate temperature made her believe she was a witch after accidently burning her village. Storm saved Idie and brought her to America to learn to control her powers but she was still haunted and felt her powers were a curse. After Idie was convinced into killing anti-mutant terrorists Wolverine took her in and rebuilt the Xavier School to try to keep students from becoming soldiers. Idie has grown into a strong young woman, confident in her powers and at peace with her identity – her journey would make a great story.

The Guthries

This Kentucky family is blessed and cursed with lots of mutant DNA in the genes.

Sam/Cannonball can blast off in an invulnerable force field. Sam’s power manifested saving a fellow coal miner in the shaft where his father died. Young Sam worked in the mines to help take care of his big family. Sam is a member of the New Mutants so it’s a good bet he may blast off in the upcoming movie but there’s other Guthries. Sam became an X-Man and is now in the U.S. Avengers.

Paige/Husk first joined Generation X after her strange morphing power manifested. Paige can rip her skin off like a husk and underneath is a new layer of skin that can be metal or other materials in different sizes and shapes. Family tragedy, her odd physical ability have made Paige guarded and at odds with herself. The shifting started to have an impact on Paige’s mind, making her turn against the X-Men before she was healed.

Jay/Icarus manifested mutant red wings that allowed him to fly. Melody/Aero could fly at will. These younger Guthries has short stints among the X-family.
