MORE MARVEL ’90s COMICS COMEBACKS For Your Consideration

The Thunderbolts are coming back. Cable and Deadpool are headlining a new buddy book again. The Dark Riders are on the attack in the Uncanny X-Men. Is a Nineties resurgence on?

Winter Soldier will be leading the newest volume of the T-Bolts with original members from it’s original incarnation. Is the announcement making you nostalgic for the ’90s?

If the T-bolts can go back to their roots for a comeback, here are four Marvel comics from the era of big guns, big shoulders and gun pouches we would want to see again.

Generation X

In the Phalanx Covenant story arc Emma Frost and Banshee led the rescue of several young mutants from aliens and became their mentors. These kids were taught at the White Queen’s Academy in Massachusettes. Members of the team would grow up to become X-Men (Jubilee, M, Husk, Chamber) while others didn’t survive (Mondo, Skin, Synch). The comic even inspired a Fox TV movie.

Emma Frost is still MIA in the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now. We don’t know the fate of the former White Queen turned X-Men co-leader. In a world where mutants are threatened by Terrigenesis, Storm’s team is rescuing mutants and taking them to X-Haven. Emma has always been a devoted teacher. What if Frost reunited Jubilee, Monet (former X-Factor investigator and current member of Magneto’s X-Men) teaching the new generation of mutants and give a new role for the kids from the Bendis run (Benjamin Dodds, Triage, Tempus).

New Fantastic Four

Wolverine, Hulk, Ghost Rider, Spider-Man? It was only a four-issue story but what a blast especially with Art Adams drawing four icons against an army of monsters. A Skrull kidnapped the real FF and impersonated Sue. The alien imposter convinced Logan, Joe Fix-It, Peter, Danny that Reed, Johnny and Ben were killed and recruited the unlikely new Four to avenge them. The imposter’s endgame was to steal a powerful weapon from the Mole Man and the mashup on Monster Island was on.  What if Old Man Logan, Amadeus Cho, Johnny Blaze and Miles Morales answered the call for a new take on this ’90s four-part FF arc?

Marvels

The birth of the Marvel Universe through the lens of news photographer Phil Sheldon by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross. We witnesses the emergence of the original Human Torch, Fantastic Four vs Silver Surfer and Galacus, X-Men and the greatest events of Marvel history through an every man. There were two sequels but what if a new every man or woman (maybe a blogger?) who sees the human impact of Secret Invasion, Dark Reign, AvX, AXIS and The End of the Marvel Universe?

Silver Sable

Black Widow may have the spotlight but this Spider-Man spinoff anti-hero is a powerhouse character. Silver is a master strategist, ruthless CEO of her own company and mercenary. Silver Sable International and Silver Sable’s Wild Pack operations drive the economy of Silver’s homeland, Symkaria, which is adjacent to Doctor Doom’s Latveria. Now that Peter Parker is a global mogul, what if he was caught up in corporate wars and criminal hunting with Silver?
