LUKE CAGE New Comic, New Mystery

2017 is looking like the Year of the Cage, Fist, Devil…and Jones, Jessica Jones. Luke Cage is smashing into a new comic book but it’s a different adventure for the Hero for Hire.

Marvel announced via CBR a new Luke Cage ongoing series by David Walker and artist Blake Nelson II with covers by Rahzzah. After relaunch Power Man and Iron Fist, Walker continues Cage’s story. The new adventure makes a return to Luke’s past and gives the New York City hero a change of venue.

Cage heads to New Orleans for the funeral of the man who gave him powers.

“This is all about Luke finding trouble and busting heads. The first story is about him dealing with the death of an old friend, and finding out there’s more to the death than meets the eye. Luke is definitely in the role of the private detective; he just happens to have super powers.” Walker explains on Marvel.com.

The new mystery goes way back to Luke’s first solo series era before Danny Rand, Misty Knight and Jessica Jones.

“In the original comic series in the 1970’s, Burstein was the scientist who experimented on Luke, and in the process gave him his powers. The character on the show plays essentially the same role, but in the comics Luke and Burstein have a different, more positive relationship. In the comics, Burstein thinks of Luke as a son.” Walker told Marvel.com.

Luke’s partner Danny Rand is getting a new ongoing Iron Fist book by Ed Brisson and Mike Perkins .

Cage, Rand, Jessica Jones and Daredevil will team up for a brand new Defenders book by Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez – with a preview on Free Comic Book Day – inspired by Marvel’s Defenders on Netflix.

Luke Cage, Defenders and Iron Fist – all coming this May.
