Producers of Gotham are doubling down on madness with season two.

Fans are guessing if Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) is the future Joker but there’s a slow burn with Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) that makes us suspect she’s the Clown Prince of Crime’s beloved.

Is Jim Gordon’s ex-fiancee turned psychopathic killer becoming Gotham‘s take on Harley Quinn?

If you missed the first two episodes of Gotham season two stop reading now.

New villains Theo and Tabitha Galavan orchestrated a breakout at Arkham Asylum.

After crossing paths in a hilarious behind bars encounter, Valeska and Kean are among the inmates on the lam.

Now dubbed The Maniax, the insane outlaws are executing the Galavans’ plan for a “great cleansing” of the city as Theo (James Frain) warns the Mayor “monsters are coming.”

Fans may be missing Jada Pinkett-Smith’s tough talking Fish Mooney, but in the season premiere Richards seems to have inherited that cold, sassy, sinister wit. Kean is also giving off serious a Harley Quinn vibe as she sports the fan-favorite characters’s signature colors. Kean isn’t giving off the typical traits of the mad woman but in the second episode was a calculating, most in-control member of the Maniax.

Barbara is probably not Harley but she’s act in concert with the “is he Joker” Valeska.

In comics (actually Harley was created on Batman: The Animated Series before she leaped to pages) Quinn was the Joker’s brilliant therapist transformed into after the patient exploited his doctor’s weakness. Barbara was similarly turned by the Ogre in the season one finale.

After spending the first season as a victim, Kean is emerging a formidable rogue. Barbara and the dear departed Fish Mooney may join Harley Quinn in the gallery of Batman characters created for television series who went to become comic book favorites.

Gotham airs Mondays at 8pm on Fox.
