Captain Marvel will survive and thrive with a little help from her friends! Captain Marvel #17 arrives this Wednesday. The highly anticipated, oversized “Carol Corps Issue” forwards our hero’s story while celebrating the devoted fans who keep Carol soaring.
In the fallout of The Enemy Within Carol must regroup and rebuild her memories but she’s got an army of allies to help her move ahead.
The Carol Corps issue is one way the creative team is giving back to the fans. Last month writer Kelly Sue DeConnick made her first appearance at the third annual GeekGirlCon with the Carol Corps in force showing their support. DeConnick isn’t just blazing trails for Carol Danvers but for women who want to pursue careers in comics. As we celebrate the arrival of the Carol Corps issue I wanted to re-share part of my one on one interview with DeConnick.
After acknowledging the opportunity to thank all fans she spoke of “being a cheerleader for young women in particular. I don’t guard my tips – oh ladies only. (laughs) and that ” representation is powerful.”
DeConnick noted the many women who had been paving the way before her and explained why she now uses her middle name to make sure people know a woman wrote the comic book.
Captain Marvel will relaunch with a brand new one in 2014 as part of the All-New Marvel Now Initiative. Here’s what DeConnick told me about the number one reboot coming soon.
