Jean Grey finds herself face to face with Miles Morales, Spider-Man in the Ultimate Universe in All-New X-Men #32.

This week’s cover is an homage to the Chris Claremont/John Byrne era when Kitty Pryde was first welcomed to the X-Men.

A new mutant’s dimension blasting power sends Jean into the Ultimate Universe. Can she escape?

While we await the fate of Jean and Miles I flashed back myself.

This week’s crossover appearance crafted by Brian Michael Bendis takes me back to other times when the Children of the Atom traveled to unexpected places with unusual allies and enemies.

Here are three of the most unusual X-Men crossovers you may want to hunt for for a unique mutant tale (picture links are courtesy Marvel and take you to another site)

#1 The Uncanny X-Men and New Teen Titans is one of the best crossovers of all time from the greatest era for both team. Marvel and DC co-published an epic story starring their rookie heroes in a story written by future legends Chris Claremont with art by Walt Simonson and Terry Austin. Len Wein acted as DC’s liaison on the project.

Darkseid believes the energy of the Dark Phoenix can help him break the Source Wall and tap into the limitless power of the Source. The madman taps into the memories of the mutants to recreate the Dark Phoenix. The alien princess Starfire alerts both teams of the plan since her people know the legend of the Dark Phoenix.

The X-Men of the Claremont/John Byrne era, the Titans of the Marv Wolfman/George Perez era with Darkseid, Deathstroke the Terminator and the resurrected Dark Phoenix are classic elements in an action packed and emotional epic.

#2 Star Trek/X-Men

Spock vs. Wolverine! Guess who wins?

The X-Men of the 1990’s have a close encounter Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise during their original five year mission. Scott Lobdell wrote the crossover one-shot as part of Marvel’s Paramount imprint in 1996 with an all-star art team including Marc Silvestri, David Finch and Billy Tan.

Gary Mitchell and Proteus are the villains of the crossover that brings them together along with Gladiator, The Shi’ar Imperial Guard and Deathbird.

#3 The X-Men and The Micronauts

The Micronauts started a action figures. Bill Mantlo was inspired by his son’s toys and convinced Marvel to get the license to create comics back on the figures and he wrote several series including a four part team-up (with Chris Claremont and artist Butch Guice) with the X-Men of 1984. As you can see this was during the original Mohawk Storm era when the X-Men entered the Microverse and we saw a hint of Professor Xavier’s dark side that would manifest later on.

From the Microverse to Federation space to DC’s Fourth World – the X-Men have traveled above and beyond for best selling specials and inspired crossovers.
