Jean Grey finds herself face to face with Miles Morales, Spider-Man in the Ultimate Universe in All-New X-Men #32.

This week’s cover is an homage to the Chris Claremont/John Byrne era when Kitty Pryde was first welcomed to the X-Men.

A new mutant’s dimension blasting power sends Jean into the Ultimate Universe. Can she escape?

While we await the fate of Jean and Miles I flashed back myself.

This week’s crossover appearance crafted by Brian Michael Bendis takes me back to other times when the Children of the Atom traveled to unexpected places with unusual allies and enemies. Continue reading X-MEN UNUSUAL CROSSOVERS

While the first trailer was an ominous tone starring Benedict Cumberbatch’s villain John Harrison. The new trailer for Star Trek:Into Darkness warps up the action and humor. We see more of the Enterprise crew running through an alien jungle and leaping off a cliff, Kirk being drilled by Admiral Pike and rapid fire one-liners even one by Spock. Enjoy:

STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS Poster Revealed

Star Trek: Into Darkness courtesy Paramount Pictures

The first poster for Star Trek: Into Darkness is out! Paramount Pictures tweeted the teaser!

No Kirk. No Spock. No Enterprise.

The poster does show Benedict Cumberbatch (he plays the villain) surveying the ruins of an Earth city or is it Starfleet HQ. Some bloggers have said the city is London given the similarities to specific landmarks in the British capital – good eye IGN. The villain is walking through a blast zone that is in the shape of the Starfleet insignia.

The villain is sporting a Neo (from The Matrix) style look. Speculation about Cumberbatch’s role has run from Khan to Gary Seven. The teaser does have a look similar to The Dark Knight Rises.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”

What do you think? I personally think it’s cool that it doesn’t look like a typical Star Trek movie poster. JJ Abrams make Trek cool again with respecting the legacy without being chained to it – warp speed!

The trailer is about to debut in about 2 weeks.

Doctor Who & Star Trek Crossover Flashback! Jelly Baby?

Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimilation2 #3 courtesy IDW Publishing

How to make the Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimilation2 comic book crossover even more geektastic? Jelly babies!

The creative team behind IDW Publishing’s clever mashup gives old school fans a flashback with the fourth Doctor (and my first*) Tom Baker in an encounter with Kirk, Spock, Bones and Scotty.

Issue #3 takes us right into the action as the eleventh Doctor is on the bridge of the Enterprise with Captain Jean-Luc Picard and crew. The Enterprise is on the run from an armada of Borg cubes and Cybermen warships. What Picard sees being transmitted from the lead Borg cube is bizarre behavior even for the alien assimilators.

Peering into the Starfleet database reveals images of Cybermen and a curly haired man sporting a hat and scarf! The current Doctor’s violent reaction to the images triggers a flashback and away we go. Captain James T. Kirk, Spock, Dr. McCoy and Mr. Scott are on an away mission where the humans seem zombified, robot warriors attack and a friendly stranger in hat, scarf and offering jelly babies saves the day. The writing and art style change to reflect the flashback feel of the tale within a tale. The trip back shows that the Cybermen have been in the Trek universe for a long time and hints at the origin of the Borg/Cybermen alliance that’s threatening the Federation now.

The writers succeed again at capturing the spirit of the classic characters and how they would act and interact. I have to thank the writers for making me remember the Cybermen’s weakness. How could I have forgotten?

Back to the future present the Time Lord is puzzled that he keeps remembering things he didn’t remember like when he recognized Worf as a Klington even though he’d never encountered one before…or did he? As Picard grows suspicious of the eleventh Doctor’s story he calls on an ancient ally to help determine the truth.

I’m excited to see that encounter next issue! *To be even more specific – my first Doctor Who episode was The Pirate Planet

Star Trek 2 Villain’s Role “Kicking In”

Intensity is up to warp 9 on the set of Star Trek 2. Benedict Cumberbatch tells MTV News “it’s great fun” filming. Recently photos and video show the British actor fighting with Zachary Quinto (Spock.)

“My part of the film is really sorta kicking in now. It’s great fun, great, great fun,” he said. “But what I’m trying to say is it’s a great thing to come into something that everybody’s familiar with and knows each other very well. So it’s [in] a weird way a very easy thing to get up to speed with, because everybody is so welcoming and gets along with one another.”

For the entire video and interview here’s the MTV News link.

No word on who Cumberbatch is playing or what species. From the recent photo* it looks like the British actor could be Vulcan or Romulan – although the trademark pointed ears are covered. It looks like he’s wearing a Starfleet communicator badge. When Benicio Del Toro was cast rumors began that he would be playing Khan (played by the late Ricardo Montalban in the original series and Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan.)

I’m still watching for updates on the earlier story that Cumberbatch may play the Time Lord villain, The Master, for the 50th anniversary of the Doctor Who series opposite Matt Smith.

*When the photos and video came out last week I didn’t want to post because it may be considered a spoiler but I feel they are everywhere now. It’s an interesting thing of when and what to share when it comes to blogging. I hope this didn’t spoil it for you.
