Big changes for the X-Men and the teams behind the scenes.

Daniel Ketchum is the new X-Men editor with Jeff Lemire, Cullen Bunn and Dennis Hopeless writing the three major X-books.

The big threat is Terrigenesis. The cosmic cloud that is triggering new Inhumans is killing and sterilizing mutants.

One burning question about the upcoming next chapter of the X-Men is what happened to Cyclops, Emma Frost and other missing mutants. Are they mutant victims of Terrigen Cloud’s effects?

As the Inhumans rise, are the X-Men threatened with a extinction?

Longtime readers may think the new threat is a twist on the Decimation event when Scarlet Witch declared “No More Mutants” on M-Day. Thanks to Cyclops and Hope Summers, the mutant race was saved from extinction. Assistant Editor Christina Harrington and Ketchum explain how this is very different.

“The “No More Mutants” event at the end of “House of M” was instantaneous and it happened without a lot of the mutants knowing why it was happening or how. With the Terrigen Mists, this is a physical threat that most mutants know about. Rather than a “magical” and instant event, this new threat by the Mists is much more drawn out and visual — it will have political ramifications between the Inhuman and the Mutant communities and out into the larger Marvel U.” Harrington told Comic Book Resources.

“That’s really the biggest difference, isn’t it? The Terrigen Mists spell doom for mutantkind, while serving as the catalyst for everything that makes the Inhumans what they are. So even though the X-Men are racing to save their species, they’re going to need to tread carefully…” Ketchum added.

Beast will be a member of Uncanny Inhumans and not the X-Men. Is Hank McCoy siding with Medusa’s extended family as the Marvel Universe builds up to a X-Men vs. Inhumans war?

Stay tuned for more answers and likely questions in Uncanny X-Men #600 and Extraordinary X-Men #1 next month.
