Spoiler Warning:

This story contains plot details of X-Men: Days of Future Past so you may not want to continue reading if you have not seen the new film.

Is this the cinematic end of Miss Emma Frost?

Emma appeared briefly in X-Men: Origins: Wolverine as the captured sister of Kayla (aka Silver Fox) played by Lynn Collins. We can assume it was Emma since she was icy blonde and could transform into diamond. The infamous Emma Frost of the Hellfire Club era was played by January Jones in X-Men: First Class. This was absolutely the telepath who could transform into diamond and was the lover of Sebastian Shaw.

In X-Men: Days of Future Past Mystique learns that Emma died as a prisoner of Bolivar Trask along with some other characters from First Class.

Does that mean, “No More Emma” in future X-Men movies?

X-Men: Days of Future Past reset the timeline. Scott Summer, Jean Grey and more mutants got a new start and happier life in the future.
Now we may see a young Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) recruit Cyclops, Jean and Storm (as played by new actors) in future films. Can Emma be part of the next X-Men cinema evolution?

Emma started out as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club but would later help teach the kids of Generation X. During Grant Morrison’s New X-Men run, he brought Emma to team, split up Scott and Jean paved the way for Cyclops and Emma to become the new mutant power couple of Joss Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men (I and II) run and beyond. (Scott and Emma shared a psychic affair long before they physically got together…until Jean found out!)

During Avengers vs. X-Men a Phoenix possessed Cyclops nearly killed Emma and crippled her power and killed Professor X. Scott and Emma are no longer a couple but fight together in the pages of Uncanny X-Men.

The Trask report claims Emma died in the research labs but did she?
During the New X-Men era, Emma was “killed” while in her diamond form but Jean used her telekinesis to rebuild Emma. In the comics Emma has two sinister sisters so could Emma have switched the DNA with Adrienne or Cordelia.

Why so much concern over the cinematic fate of Emma?

The story potential based on her comic book counterpart.

The Scott/Jean/Emma triangle is pure sci-fi soap opera at its best with Logan brimming with love for Jean and anger at Scott.

Emma is a powerful telepath, formidable strategist and is willing to make the ruthless calls for the greater good and even play the villain – which she did in Dark Reign.

One of my favorite exchanges by Morrison was Jean asking Emma why she was such a bitch. Emma’s response, “Breeding, darling.”

As much I love Jean Grey, I think Emma is the best thing to ever happen to Cyclops in terms of character.

Days of Future Past allowed the X-Men franchise to evolve. Who knows what Apocalypse will bring but the possibility of a Cyclops, Jean, Emma, Logan quadrangle is an uncanny opportunity for fans.
