It was a modern take on mutants with X-Men in leather, freaky new students and when Emma Frost officially joined the team.
Writer Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quitely radically evolved the mutants with New X-Men and their first arc E is for Extinction.
Marvel announced the next Secret Wars book: E is For Extinction #1 via Comic Vine.
Morrison’s Batman, Incorporated and Nameless artistic collaborator Chris Burnham will write the tie-in book. Ramon Villalobos will be the artist. Burnham describes the world we jump back into:
“It’s almost an alternate timeline version of it. It’s almost like another take on events from the first issue and spin wildly out of control from there. It’s not quite a WHAT IF…? or alternate timeline, it’s just coming out of the SECRET WARS events,” Burnham told Comic Vine.
Morrison introduced Quentin Quire, Angel Salvadore, Beak, No-Girl and Martha Johansson and the Stepford Cuckoos to the School during this period.
Cassandra Nova and John Sublime were major new villains but the biggest twist of the era was the peaceful man in mask Xorn was actually Magneto.
Here’s the official description of the upcoming new series:
• What happens when mutants prove they really are Homo SUPERIOR?
• What will happen to the X-Men when they fight for a world that wants to be them, rather than hate and fears them?
• And what exactly is Magneto doing running the Xavier institute??
Burnham confirmed the black and yellow leather outfits are back but Fantomex will not be in this one.
