Pacific Northwest cosplayers help make Emerald City Comicon such a geek-tacular experience.

The Seattle celebration always marks a reunion with new friends you see online and in person (often in costume) at the con. As big at ECCC is growing you can still run into your favorite cosplayers, collectors and fellow fans.

I met Ryan and Lauren a few years ago at the Jet City Comic Book Show (also produced by the team behind ECCC) dressed as my favorite Marvel couple: Kitty Pryde and Colossus.

Every year I would see Ryan and Lauren at ECCC and Jet City sporting new and more creatively ambitous X-Men costumes. Ryan and Lauren would go to the dark side as Magneto and Mystique and later as Beast and Abigail Brand (director of S.W.O.R.D. created by Joss Whedon on his Astonishing X-Men run.)

You will see the Uncanny duo sport multiple costumes each day of ECCC.

This year Ryan went for a retro Soviet-era Colossus and Lauren went for Mystique (as inspired by the Brian K. Vaughn, Mike Mayhew solo series starring the shapeshifter.)

I asked Ryan and Lauren the motivation behind this year’s choice and the most difficult aspect of showing their X-Men love via cosplay:

Thanks Ryan and Lauren for sharing your secrets and for making Emerald City Comicon an astonishing experience every year.

Special thanks to photographer Josh Lewis of KOMONews.com and Seattle Refined for capturing some of the pictures you see.
