With a chapter titled Last Kiss, is the super romance of Superman and Wonder Woman over?

“The Final Days of Superman” by Peter J. Tomasi is setting the stage for the DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH launch beginning on May 25, which results in new identities, new costumes and…even more Supermen, a Super Son, Superwoman and the return of Supergirl.

DC Comics shared a look at Superman/Wonder Woman #28.

Early on in The New 52 era,  now single Superman fell in love with Diana.

The course of comic book love never runs smooth.

As The New 52 era comes to an end, death is stalking the Man of Steel.

Exposure to Apokolips’ fire pits in JUSTICE LEAGUE: DARKSEID WAR, the A.R.G.U.S. Kryptonite chamber from “Savage Dawn” in SUPERMAN, and his battle with the would-be god Rao in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA all combined to a death sentence for Kal-El.  With Super League, Superman is on a quest to seek heroes from across the DC Universe to continue his role as humanity’s protector.

The Super League saga continued in ACTION COMICS #51 “Dazed and Confused”, where Superman found Supergirl at a D.E.O. facility, only to find out that she had been working with them to regain her abilities. Superman reveals to Kara the responsibility she must take on when he is gone, and gives her the key to the Fortress of Solitude. Meanwhile, the new “Clark Kent” made a deadly appearance at the Daily Planet and Dr. Omen receives a gift for her experiments—the Man of Steel’s blood.

Diana arrived at the Fortress asking, “when were you going to tell me?”

Part 4 picks up the cliffhanger in SUPERMAN/ WONDER WOMAN #28 “Last Kiss” next Wednesday. Wonder Woman confronts Superman about the news that he is dying, and with no barriers left, they confess what they could never say before. But all too soon they are called to aid in the dilemma that is the new and unstable “Superman”. But who is this newcomer? And what part does Ulysses play in this?

The Final Days of Superman” by writer Peter J. Tomasi encompasses all four Super-titles in April and May:

SUPERMAN #51 AND #52
BATMAN/SUPERMAN #31 AND #32
ACTION COMICS #51 AND #52
SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN #28 AND #29

Tomasi will take over with Superman: Rebirth in June but it will be a different Man of Steel trying to guide the future of his son Jon Kent. Is this the end of Superman and Wonder Woman? Will you miss The New 52 power couple or do you want Superman back with Lois Lane?

Here are more images from next week’s big reunion that could include the last kiss of Kal-El and Diana.
