STEVE ROGERS RETURNS AS CAPTAIN AMERICA

During the Captain America: 75 Heroic Years special on ABC tonight Marvel revealed Steve Rogers would return as the hero in comics.

Last year a villain called the Iron Nail seized the Super Soldier Serum from Rogers’ body leaving him an old man without powers. Rogers continued to have an advisory role with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and is a member of the Uncanny Avengers cast.

Rogers recruited longtime friend and former partner Sam Wilson (aka Falcon) to be the new Captain America. Wilson is currently starring in a solo series by Nick Spencer and leads the All-New, All-Different Avengers by Mark Waid.

Rogers and Wilson are estranged but both will come together to a new threat in the crossover: Avengers Standoff: Assault on Pleasant Hill, where “something happens that restores Steve to full vigor” writer Nick Spencer revealed.

Rogers will have a new costume and new shield in the new book Steve Rogers: Captain America by Spencer and artist Jesus Saiz. Don’t think this mean Wilson is giving up the title. Sam Wilson, Captain America by Spencer and Daniel Acuna will continue.

“It means we’ll have two Captain Americas. When Steve handed the shield to Sam, it didn’t come with any caveats. It’s his. Steve respects and admires what his old partner is doing, and wants him to carry on. There are enough problems out there, and enough bad guys, to keep both of them busy. They’ll have very different missions; Sam will continue fighting the battles no one else will go near, while Steve is faced with a resurgent threat from his past: Hydra is back, and stronger than ever.” Spencer told Marvel.com.

“For me, it’s great, because I get to tell two very different kinds of Captain America stories. If you’re liking what we’re doing in CAPTAIN AMERICA: SAM WILSON, with a more topical, of-the-moment take, we’ve got a lot more of that coming your way; but if you’re looking for that classic, timeless version, the one that’s steeped in the Greatest Generation with Cap fighting the face of true evil, now we’ve got that for you as well. I think they’ll complement each other nicely.”

Chris Evans returns as Rogers in Captain America:Civil War on the big screen, it’s the hero’s 75th’s anniversary but Spencer reveals another reason why it’s time for Rogers to suit up again in the comics:

“The country is as divided as it’s ever been, and Steve is one of a kind; he’s a unifying figure, someone we can all look up to, [and] someone we can all put our faith in. It’s no secret the Marvel Universe is about to enter a period of serious conflict with Civil War II looming on the horizon, and as such, it feels like the perfect moment to bring Steve back into fighting shape. ”

Civil War II is Marvel’s big event this summer but so far it’s been revealed Iron Man and Captain Marvel will lead opposite sides of the conflict. When Rogers is back to full power which side will he choose?

On the cover joining Cap is Sharon Carter and Bucky Barnes, Winter Soldier.

What do you think of Steve’s return, two Cap books and Steve’s new costume and shield?
