As the world waits for SPECTRE, the new James Bond adventure, there’s a new mission from Marvel Comics in 2016 that may lure spy fans into the world of Stark…Tony Stark.

Marvel confirmed a second book starring the Armored Avenger by Brian Michael Bendis who will team up with his Daredevil artist Alex Maleev for International Iron Man.

Maleev called the new book “Bond meets Tony on a speedboat” in a new Marvel interview.

Bendis agreed calling it “a super hero James Bond story.”

Tony chased Madame Masque in the first issue of the new International Iron Man leading to the return of a major villain with a major makeover. More on that below but Tony’s globe-trotting adventures are just beginning.

Of all the possible adjectives, Bendis explained why “International”

“Well, I think we all know the world feels smaller. Technology has brought us closer together. We’re more aware of each other’s triumphs and tragedies than we were even just a few years ago. I think that Tony’s perspective on this would be amplified a hundred times. He is more aware of things that go on in NYC and other parts of the world.

It’s also going to give us a chance to experience some of the international flavors of the Marvel Universe—your Atlantis, your Weirdworld, and all of these other places on the planet whose actions and reactions mean just as much as anything going on in Avengers Tower. And Tony’s the right guy for this because he has all of the screens on and he can’t seem to turn them off. He’s way more aware of things than some of the other heroes would be.” Bendis told Marvel.com.

It was revealed Tony was adopted by Howard Stark in the previous volume of the series.

Now about that villain…

SPOILER ALERT!

If you have not read International Iron Man #1 & 2  stop reading now.

Here it comes:

Tony’s pursuit of Madame Masque led to Latveria and Doctor Doom!? All scans indicate he was Victor Von Doom except he was younger and not covered in scars. How did Doom go from the “God” of Battleworld in Secret Wars to the stylish and suited monarch we see in the pages of the new Iron Man book?

Remember this book is set eight months after the finale of Secret Wars which wraps up with issue nine in December.

And Mary Jane Watson is joining the cast.

If Stark is being compared to 007, does that mean MJ could be the Moneypenny or Bond leading lady of Tony’s global adventures?

International Iron Man takes off in 2016.
