Spectre feels like the end for the Daniel Craig James Bond era. The star is signed for a fifth film and was a producer of the latest 007 adventure who recruited director Sam Mendes to return.

After  24 films and more than 50 years, creators still find inspiration in the Ian Fleming novels. EON Productions went back to the first Fleming novel for Craig’s first film. Casino Royale was followed by Quantum of Solace then Mendes explored Bond’s youth in Scotland in Skyfall. In Spectre, Oberhauser (a father figure in Bond’s life mentioned briefly in a short story) was part of the story that saw the return of S.P.E.C.T.R.E. and Blofeld to films.

Is there anything left from the Ian Fleming novels that can be used for future films? Here are 7 Ian Fleming story elements for future 007 movies: Continue reading From JAMES BOND Book to Movie, 7 for 007.

Grayson #1 courtesy DC Comics
Grayson #1 courtesy DC Comics

James Bond is back in SPECTRE. Daniel Craig returns as 007 on a mission against the evil organization we haven’t seen on screen since Sean Connery’s final canon film in the series.

The latest Bond made us peer into the vault to pick four of our favorite spies from comics books.

No costumes. No masks. No problem.

These are the coolest covert operatives in the DC and Marvel Universes:

Grayson

No mask. No code-name. New mission. The man who was once known as Robin and Nightwing is his own man with a covert agenda. Dick Grayson is no longer a sidekick under Batman’s shadow and now operates in the shadow world of the DC Universe. Dick faked his death to infiltrate Spyral, a covert organization plotting against costumed heroes. Dick’s new adventures in Grayson are co-written by Tim Seeley and Tim King, a former CIA counter-intelligence officer. Continue reading FOUR COOLEST COMIC BOOK SPIES

Best JAMES BOND Gadgets, Gear and Rides

The Aston-Martin comes roaring back with other super car action in SPECTRE. The 24th James Bond adventure marks the return of the classic car that dazzled fans in Goldfinger and Thunderball.

Daniel Craig’s latest mission makes nostalgic and look back at our 7 favorite gadgets from the 007 franchise:

Attache Case from From Russia, With Love.

The first proper Bond “gadget” from the second and our favorite film. Q (Major Boothroyd) outfits Bond with this cool case secretly packing ammunition, a sniper rifle, throwing knife, gold sovereigns and a tear gas cartridge. This case was critical in Bond’s Orient Express encounter with the assassin Red Grant (Robert Shaw) one of my favorite henchmen of the series. Maleev called the new book “Bond meets Tony on a speedboat” in a new Marvel interview.

Bendis agreed calling it “a super hero James Bond story.”

Tony chased Madame Masque in the first issue of the new International Iron Man leading to the return of a major villain with a major makeover. More on that below but Tony’s globe-trotting adventures are just beginning. Continue reading STARK Goes BOND in INTERNATIONAL IRON MAN

Spectre of IAN FLEMING in SPECTRE

The spectre of Ian Fleming fills SPECTRE.

In interviews the heirs of Albert R. “Cubby” say their famous father would say always go back to the Fleming books when in doubt about the direction of the 007 film franchise.

EON Productions did just that when they reset the series by hiring Daniel Craig and making a film based on the first Fleming novel, Casino Royale.

As fans eagerly await for SPECTRE, the spirit of Ian Fleming and Albert Broccoli is clear and present in the 24th Bond film. It’s astonishing to think after more than 50 years and all those films there are still elements of Fleming’s books we are seeing for the first time in the film franchise. For director Sam Mendes, Once Was Not Enough.

Sounds like a 007 film title doesn’t it?

Mendes and Daniel Craig return for Spectre, the follow-up to the billion dollar box-office hit Skyfall. With two James Bond missions on his dossier, the director joins an elite fraternity.

Is this the continuation of a new run within the 007 franchise. Sam Mendes won rave reviews for Skyfall and expectations are at an All-Time High (thanks Rita Coolidge) as Bond faces his greatest enemies in Spectre.

To celebrate the second mission for Mendes and return of Ian Fleming’s most evil creation, here’s a look back at incredible runs by directors within the 007 franchise: Continue reading SPECTRE And Directing JAMES BOND
