SEATTLE CINERMA SCI-FI Film Festival Welcomes DOUGLAS TRUMBULL

A true science fiction icon and groundbreaking Hollywood legend beams to Seattle for a world premiere and look back at his role in a trio of classic movies this weekend.

 

After an amazing week of films and iconic actors, the second annual Science Fiction Film Festival at Seattle Cinerama Theater welcomes Douglas Trumbull.  The Hollywood icon is famous for his visual effects works on 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters of The Third Kind and Blade Runner. Trumbull directed Brainstorm and Silent Running.

 

The man who helped show us the future on the big screen decades ago is now innovating how we experience movies. The world premiere of Trumbull’s short film, UFOTOG is this Sunday, May 11th with three screenings.The 12-minute science fiction adventure was written and directed by Trumbull and demonstrates his new technical process, MAGI − a new cinematic language allowing the audience to experience the story in a way that is not possible using conventional film standards. Christie Digital is providing a special digital projector to premiere the footage, which was captured in 4k 3D at 120 frames per second.

 

The Oscar Award Winning is scheduled to appear in a Q&A after screenings of Brainstorm and 2001: A Space Odyssey this Friday then Close Encounters of the Third Kind and an encore of 2001: A Space Odyssey on Saturday. Sunday there are screenings of Trumbull’s UFOTOG at 12:30pm, 3:00pm, and 5:30pm.

 

“This festival represents what is so special about Seattle Cinerama: we can bring 800 people together to honor classic films in a grand movie palace while also demonstrating the future of cinema with Douglas Trumbull’s world premiere of new technology,” said Cinerama Operator Greg Wood.

 

Seattle Cinerama is one of the few theaters in the nation that can still run all film formats (35mm, 70mm, DCP and Cinerama).
