All hail the Queen!
Marvel announced Serinda Swan (“Ballers,” “Graceland”) will play Medusa in the Marvel’s Inhumans television series, the never-before-told adventure of the royal family. In this series, Medusa is described as Queen of the Inhumans and wife of Black Bolt — his most trusted advisor, a fiercely resilient warrior who has the ability to move and control her hair the way most people use their hands and fingers.
Medusa is one of the most powerful women in Marvel Comics. The Queen currently rules the Inhumans, vows to protect a new generation of new Inhumans and is currently at war with the X-Men.
In the upcoming television series Anson Mount will play her King, Black Bolt and Iwan Rheon will play his brother Maximus the Mad.
The first two episodes of the new ABC series will premiere exclusively in IMAX® theatres for a two-week window in September 2017, before an 8-episode run on ABC.
The Inhumans were first introduced in Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in Fantastic Four in 1965. Since that time, they have grown to star in their own family of comic book titles. The comics event Inhumans vs X-Men is reaching a finale before the ResurrXion event which launches three new Inhumans comic books.
“Serinda empowers Medusa’s regal glory and still maintains a relatability that synced perfectly with the character,” Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television and Executive Producer told Marvel.com. “She is nothing short of wonderful.”
“Serinda Swan brings a regal elegance, as well as a sense of great inner strength and fierce determination to the role of Medusa. I couldn’t be happier to have her as our Queen of Attilan.”said Executive Producer and showrunner Scott Buck.
No word yet on if other members of the Inhuman Royal Family will appear in the new series. Medusa has a sister named Crystal who was once an Avenger and married to Quicksilver. Medusa’s cousins are Karnak, Gorgon and Triton.
“Marvel’s Inhumans” is executive produced by Scott Buck (Marvel’s Iron Fist) along with Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory with Buck serving as showrunner. Roel Reine (“Admiral,” “Black Sails”) will direct the first two episodes. The series is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios.
