Spider-Man’s Amazing Girlfriend and The Dark Turned On

Spidey fans know Mary Jane is the love of his life but you never forget your first love. Gwen Stacy is Peter Parker’s haunting lost love. She’s the one that got away.       Director Marc Webb is talking about why he went with Gwen over MJ and much darker tone for Amazing Spider-Man.

“There’s this trickster quality we were very keen on exploring, with that humor and that fun and that wisecracking stuff,” Webb told Comic-Con Magazine. “We wanted to keep that alive, but we wanted it to be realistic. We wanted that humor to come from a real place. My aim was to create a world where you could feel all those emotions. There are certainly darker, more intense feelings in this movie. There is betrayal, there is tragedy, but there’s also humor and romance. So it’s a very complex bouquet of emotions, but what you have to tread on is what feels authentic and what feels real, and you have to earn those different emotions. There are moments of furiousness and gravity, absolutely. But are there moments of humor and levity and whimsy? Absolutely. Andrew was really great. He used this term to describe Peter Parker in Spider-Man and Spider-Man in particular: he’s a trickster. He was like “How would Spider-Man web this guy? He’d give him a wedgy or he’d dos some awful graffiti.” There’s a punk rock quality to Peter Parker that’s really irreverent and fun and that’s something that Andrew embodies in a way that we haven’t seen before. Certainly the materials that have come out have a darker sentiment or there’s a darker projection, but we’re very keen on staying loyal to the humor of Spider-Man.”

Thanks to Comic Book Resources and Latino Review for posting the interview. The film’s official site posted new photos of Gwen and Peter.

I’m excited for Gwen and hope we meet Felicia Hardy in a possible sequel.

Huntress Preview

The Huntress #5 courtesy DC Comics

Batman’s world is filled with dangerous, resourceful women including Catwoman, Batwoman, Batgirl, Talia Al Ghul but one avenging angel I love is getting front burner status.

The Huntress is currently starring in her own mini-series seeking justice and stalking a mobster in Italy. Helena is the daughter of a murdered mob boss who vows revenge.

DC Comics The Source shares stunning new images from Huntress #5 in which Helena will assault an ancient monastery guarded by the Italian military.” This is the penultimate issue of her adventure but a new Huntress’ story is just beginning.

The Huntress and Power Girl of Earth 2 will star in a new World’s Finest – part of DC Comics The New 52 Second Wave. On Earth 2 Helena is Batman and Catwoman’s daughter. Paul Levitz, George Perez and Kevin Maguire will chronicle the duo’s mission to return home.

The Huntress has one of my favorite costumes in comics and with a compelling back story making her a great anti-heroine.

Harrison Ford and Blade Runner Prequel?

The unthinkable is happening again. Ridley Scott revolutionized the science fiction genre with Alien and Blade Runner. The countdown is on for Prometheus, the sequel that evolved into something new with Alien DNA. The cast is entirely new. Scott committed to a new film set in the Blade Runner universe – will Harrison Ford be joining him?

Twitchfilm reports that “Harrison Ford has entered early talks to join the new Blade Runner. While it is in the early stages and it is quite possible that it won’t work out…”

Harrison Ford played Rick Deckard, a Blade Runner, a special police officer charged with “retiring” replicants – artificial beings. If Ford is involved can he still play Deckard given the ending/themes of the first film? I don’t want to spoil it for anyone so that’s all I will say.

Boom Studios publishes beautiful a graphic novel version of the Phillip K. Dick story”Do Androids Dream of Electronic Sheep” the basis for Blade Runner.

For the fascinated fan – here’s two recommendations from this obsessive fan!

Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner is a compelling behind the scenes story of how this influential Science Fiction classic was made.

Blade Runner: The 5 Disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition features all versions of the film and rich documentaries.

Thanks to Dark Horizons for the story.

Archie Comics Kevin Keller’s Big Week

Kevin Keller Hardcover courtesy Archie Comics

Some comic book companies have gay and lesbian super heroes but Archie Comics is creating socially relevant and boundary pushing storylines. The publisher didn’t just give the Riverdale Gang a new gay supporting character – they made Kevin Keller a star.

Kevin is an openly gay young man wanting to serve proudly in the military. They even had Kevin marry his African-American partner is a future storyline and put them the cover. The publisher has been nominated by the GLAAD Media Awards for Outstanding Comic Book series.

This week in comic book stores – Kevin Keller stars in his own hardcover graphic novel featuring the GLAAD nominated story where Kevin first meets the Archie and gang, shares his dream to serve in the military and background of his life as an Army kid before moving to Riverdale. This includes Kevin’s appears in Veronica’s comic and his own 4 issue miniseries but that’s not all for Kevin fans.

Kevin Keller gets his own first series. In this first issue its Kevin’s first year at Riverdale High Class President and first date with some help from his friends.

What’s Next for the Black Panther

Black Panther #529 Courtesy Comic Book Resources/Marvel  Let me begin with what I’ve said a gazillion times on Facebook Thor movie updates: IDRIS ELBA can play anything but imagine him on the big screen in as BLACK PANTHER!

What a finale for Black Panther: The Most Dangerous Man Alive #529 out this week! Black Panther versus the Kingpin with Lady Bullseye, Typhoid Mary, Luke Cage and Falcon guest starring!

T’Challa took over numbering and Daredevil’s role as protector of Hell’s Kitchen but his time in New York is at an end.

Black Panther #35

What will Marvel do with T’challa?  Will he reclaim his kingdom of Wakanda? Which side will T’Challa choose in Avengers Versus X-Men? T’Challa is a longtime Avenger, Captain America just recruited Storm for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes but she’s in Uncanny X-Men’s Extinction Team so he would be a man in great conflict in AVX.

Let’s give Black Panther his own team in his own series based in Wakanda. Let’s get Idris Elba as T’Challa, Madds Mikkelsen as Klaw, and Paula Patton as Monica Lynne.

Michael Fassbender on Romance Versus Work

Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy from X-Men: First Class courtesy Marvel.com

The man who played a young Magneto is certainly attracting diverse roles and media attention. Michael Fassbender is saying that his career is takes priority over relationships at the moment.

“To be honest, relationships as a whole for me in this industry have been a difficult thing to maintain,” Bang Showbiz quotes him as saying.

“It goes with the territory. I would be prepared to walk away from relationships because of my job. I wanted to give this everything and go for it 110%, so I guess my work has taken precedence over that.”

Fassbender was romantically linked to Zoe Kravitz who played X-Men traitor Angel in X-Men: First Class. For more of this story here’s the RTE link.

Daniel Craig’s James Bond New School of Cool

Daniel Craig on the set of Skyfall Courtesy MI6-HQ.com

The meaning of Hollywood cool is being rewritten by Daniel Craig. Take the DNA of Steve McQueen and Sean Connery and you have Craig. The man is evolving cool with every film.

When I saw these pictures on MI6 I immediately of Craig as Mr. X in Layer Cake – smooth, in control, wears a suit like a weapon no matter how fast he’s running through London.

Director Sam Mendes, Craig and the Skyfall crew is filming in Tower Hall gunning for a cab and bearing his iconic gun. Team Skyfall is also filming at the famous Vauxhall Bridge that goes over the Thames and the cinematic home of MI6.
