The End of X-Factor is almost here. The long-running series Peter David has written for more than a decade is coming to an end. It’s a time to look back at the innovative series and ahead to see the possible futures of the team members.

Back in the early 90’s there was Mutant Genesis (when Chris Claremont and Jim Lee launched the first X-Men #1) the original X-Men left their series, X-Factor, to join the two new X-Men teams/books. After diving up the popular characters into the two X-Men books, Excalibur and X-Force Marvel still had a title called X-Factor. Continue reading The End of X-FACTOR

Spider-Man 2099 Returns

SpiderMan 2099 Get ready for a blast from the future past! Spider-Man 2099 (Miguel O’Hara) enters the Marvel Now in Superior Spider-Man #17 this Wednesday.

In the 1990’s Marvel launched an entire line of comics starring reimagined heroes (Ghost Rider, X-Men, Doom, Punisher) set in the future.

Spider-Man 2099 was created by Peter David and Rick Leonardi. Miguel was a brilliant scientist attempting to recreate the powers of the original Spidey in others. An accident caused O’Hara’s DNA to be rewritten with spider genetic code. This reimagined hero of Marvel’s future was the first Latino Spider-Man. Continue reading Spider-Man 2099 Returns

Friday Flashback! X-Tinction Agenda

Way back when there was only one X-Men book…seriously just one!

There was an X-Factor (the original 5 X-Men reunited) and the New Mutants (with a just introduced Cable, future founder of the first X-Force) but only one X-Book and Chris Claremont was at the top of his game with a thrilling, socially relevant epic.

At my local comic book shop’s 38th Anniversary I picked up the X-Tinction Agenda hardcover (at 38% off thanks to Zanadu) and relived the exciting epic I haven’t read since the original issues first hit shelves.

Genosha was an island nation that considered mutants a national resource and not citizens. Mutants were slave labor Continue reading Friday Flashback! X-Tinction Agenda

INFINITY #2 Dustin Weaver Preview

Here’s a first look at Dustin Weaver’s art for Infinity #2 from Marvel. Writer Jonathan Hickman is joined by Jim Cheung, Weaver and Avengers World artist Jerome Opena on the epic clash between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes vs. Thanos and the mysterious Builders.

I’m a huge fan of Hickman and Weaver’s SHIELD series so it’s a thrill to see them work together again. The Hickman/Weaver SHIELD series is not about Nick Fury and super spies but rather Leonardo Da Vinci, Galileo, Howard Stark and other super brains in a history twisting epic. While Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are off-world, Thanos and his Black Order invade Earth.

In Avengers #18 last week – the first united fight against The Builders ended with a shocking twist.

Here’s a preview of this week’s Infinity tie-ins: Continue reading INFINITY Watch Week Three
