Oscar Isaac is winning raves for his role in A Most Violent Year and he’s teasing what’s next as he plays one of the most vicious and relentless X-Men villains.

Isaac is playing En Sabah Nur but comics readers know him as Apocalypse.

The holy mutant trinity we met in First Class (James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique) along with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine will explore the origins of mutants on Earth and face “The First One” in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Isaac told MTV at The National Board of Review:

“I’ve seen a couple things,” Isaac said on the red carpet, “Scary s–t. Scary s–t… I’m going to bring [the X-Men] down to their knees. It’s amazing, I’m so excited about everything that’s going to happen.”

Apocalypse was seen briefly after the credits of X-Men: Days of Future Past being worshiped in ancient Egypt.

In comics Apocalypse is the first mutant raised by a tribe who live by the creed, “only the strong survive.” Over the centuries the villain pits mutants against mutants in a plot to create the ultimate mutant army for his takeover of the planet.

X-Men: Apocalypse opens in May 2016.
