Marvel revealed 45 new books and creative teams coming this fall in the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now relaunch.
All-New, All-Different Avengers, Extraordinary X-Men and Invincible Iron Man, Spider-Man are flagship books. We have two Spider-Men, two Wolverines and a totally new Hulk. Some fan-favorite heroes are on new teams but some iconic characters are MIA!
More new books may be coming but so far these heroes are missing from the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now that have us on edge:
Cyclops! Young Scott Summers will appear in the new volume of All-New X-Men but the original Cyke is MIA. The teaser for Extraordinary X-Men reveals the X-Men’s heavy hitters are missing in action after a cold war heats up between mutants and Inhumans are Terrigenesis starts affecting mutants. Cyclops fans should definitely read the shocking Secret Wars #4 this week. We may get a hint of Scott Summers’ fate in Uncanny X-Men #600, the final issue of the Brian Michael Bendis era.
Emma Frost! The former White Queen and ex-lover of Cyclops is MIA from the lineups too. Bendis revealed the powerful telepath is back to full power and her destiny may be exposed in his finale.
Havok! Alex Summers was front and center of the Avengers Unity Squad the last time Marvel relaunched. After a time-twisted epic that left him heartbroken, scarred and twisted by the events of AXIS, Alex seemed to reconcile with Cyclops.
Wasp! Janet Van Dyne was another victim of Kang’s plot that created an alternate timeline in which she had a child with Alex. Hank Pym’s fate was revealed in Rage of Ultron, but Janet is still out there. With fans hoping for a cinematic Wasp, there’s a hunger for Janet to be part of comics again.
Black Widow? Natasha is clearing the red from her ledger as her thrilling solo book by Nathan Edmondson and Phil Noto draws to a close. After appearing in multiple Avengers titles, it’s hard to believe Natasha is not on the main stage in some new book.
Punisher? Frank Castle’s solo book (also by Edmondson) is drawing to a close and no sight of the infamous skull in the list. Jon Bernthal will play Castle in the second season of Daredevil so I expect the infamous vigilante to make a roaring comeback.
Luke Cage and Jessica Jones! The fan-favorite has been an Avengers regular since Bendis brought this fan-favorite couple together. Cage was in the Mighty Avengers which is evolving into the Ultimates. With two Marvel/Netflix shows in the works I suspect we’ll see the Cages in a book soon.
Northstar or any GLBT character? Northstar’s wedding was made a cultural impact and big sales but Jean-Paul was a supporting player in the Amazing X-Men cast and his husband Kyle Jinadu vanished. While the Distinguished Competition has two GLBT characters in leading roles (Midnighter, Batwoman) all the GLBT heroes except Miss America in Ultimates and Hulkling and Wiccan will be in the New Avengers are MIA.
Iron Fist? Danny Rand was redefined in a epic story by Kaare Andrews who wrote, drew and did almost everything in a tour-de-force performance. With a Netflix show in the works and a devoted fan following the hero of K’un L’un deserves a next volume or to join a team.
Odinson? Jane Foster is still Thor and is joining the Avengers but what about the Odinson? Will the Prince of Asgard ever be Worthy again?
Kitty Pryde? The X-Man’s chemistry with Star-Lord became a sensation even triggering the Twitter handle #StarKat. Just when you thought Kitty and Peter Quill’s long-distance love affair was about to led to happy ending….Secret Wars! The mutant who becomes like a ghost is missing from the lineup?!
Gamora? The alien warrior was set to star in her own solo series by Guardians of the Galaxy screenwriter Nicole Perlman but the book is still out there for now.
Reed and Sue Richards! The Fantastic Four is no more. Johnny Storm is flying with the Uncanny Inhumans and Ben Grimm is soaring with Guardians of the Galaxy. What about Marvel’s first couple and their kids? Reed and Susan are caught in a cosmic triangle with God Doom of Battleworld playing out now Secret Wars.
Wolverine? Still dead? Confession – I thought sure the original Logan/James Howlett would be back but instead we have a new female Wolverine as X-23 gets a well deserved promotion and the Old Man Logan from the future will join Storm’s Extraordinary X-Men and his own solo book both by Jeff Lemire.
Loki? The villain that inspired the formation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, stole the show in the Avengers movie and inspired a legion of cosplayers (Lady Loki, Kid Loki, Loki cinematic) is missing after having appeared in Young Avengers, his own solo book and more.
Hulk? A “Totally Awesome” Hulk will be stomping around in new series by Greg Pak and Frank Cho but it’s not Bruce Banner! Where’s Bruce in the Marvel Now this fall?
There are plenty more fan-favorites MIA for now. What hero or villain do you want to see in a team or solo book that’s not listed in the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now?
