Marvel made a stunning announcement at New York Comic Con answering a lot of questions and fueling all-new speculation and excitement.
We know now how Hickman will do next after his current Avengers arc Time Runs Out is over.
As you can see by the preview art by Alex Ross this event will feature a battle between multiple versions of Marvel icons including the just introduced Superior Iron Man, female Thor and All-New Captain America.
Secret Wars was part of Hickman’s long-term plan since he took over Avengers and New Avengers two years ago.
The original 1984 limited series was a 12-part battle starring Marvel’s biggest heroes and villains around the time of the publisher’s 25th Anniversary. A God-like alien called The Beyonder kidnapped the heroes and enemies, took them to his Battleworld and declared, “I am from beyond! Slay your enemies and all that you desire shall be yours! Nothing you dream of is impossible for me to accomplish!”
The event led to major changes in the Marvel Universe including Spider-Man’s black costume, the introduction of a new Spider-Woman and She-Hulk joining Fantastic Four.
The 2015 event follows Marvel’s 75th Anniversary and appears to be a fight between champions from rival universes. Along with the multiple versions of Captain America, Iron Man and Thor – you can see Miles Morales – the Ultimate Spider-Man, two versions of Hyperion. I think you can see characters from Marvel’s 2099 and MC2 lines.
