A new team is reborn. How long before it crumbles?
An exciting launch and intriguing look into the future arrive with DC’s newest super group.
In the aftermath of Justice League vs. Suicide Squad, Justice League of America: Rebirth #1 arrives revealing the formation of the team.
Batman recruits Black Canary, Killer Frost, Lobo, The Ray, The Atom, Vixen and Lobo for his own League.
Writer Steve Orlando, artists Ivan Reis and Joe Prado reveals how Batman recruits his team members, sets up their secret headquarters and teases the future of the group and how it could fit into the big DC Universe mysteries.
Batman is clearly inspired by Killer Frost’s change to define herself and everyone needs a fresh start, even himself. The Dark Knight is starting something new.
Before we continue breaking down what happened here’s a SPOILER ALERT!
If you have not read Justice League of America: Rebirth #1 yet stop reading now.
Seriously.
OK.
Here it comes.
After Killer Frost’s transformation in JL vs SS, the Dark Knight made Caitlin his first recruit. In this first issue, the two descend into an underground bunker in Happy Harbor, Rhode Island. The old site of the original JLA headquarters is the new base of Batman’s revamped squad.
The final page is four panels setting up big fights and speculation:
Lobo vs the Ray?
Locked in battle, the Ray is stabbing the Main Man into the chest. Will Lobo stay on the team’s side or go Rogue? Is The Ray not really attacking Lobo but using his power to help him?
Killer Frost vs. Mystery Woman?
“Know this sister, your life hangs on an impossible choice,” says the woman (?) confronting Caitlyn. The figure is in a red rob and we say a hint of a chain. It sure looks like Killer Frost and the robed woman are in an ancient looing temple. Could this confrontation be on Themyscira or some other location in Greek mythology?
Batman vs ?
The Dark Knight is holidng a shield adorned with “Liberty” and five-pointed stars in a cross on it. The off-camera enemy declares, “The last person to face me with that shield died holding it.” Could this shield be another signal members of the Justice Society of America are coming back?
The Atom vs The Atom?
Ryan Choi in his Atom costume is face to face with a man Ryan asks if he’s Professor Ray Palmer. The mystery man is in a weird costume that reminds me of the Manhunter. The man is hooded and possibly bearded so it’s not obvious.
Justice League of America #1 arrives later this month.
