Captain Marvel #1 takes Carol Danvers even higher as the fan-favorite goes cosmic into the All-New Marvel Now. The Avenger’s outer space adventures mean new friends, enemies, a new home and potentially a new love.

Writer Kelly Sue DeConnick tells Carol Corps fans and potential new readers what to expect from Captain Marvel’s new mission.

“Everything about Carol wants to go up. Chin up, head up, heart up, up, up, up. And I thought, ‘What if we let her go?’” DeConnick told Marvel.com.
“In many ways, Captain Marvel’s adventures have been building to this moment.” said Editor Sana Amanat. “Carol has always pushed herself to the limits in all aspects of her life, so setting off into that grand cosmic highway is simply a matter of destiny. And one replete with high-octane space chases, monstrous battles and intergalactic mystery!”

Carol’s new adventures follow the big events in The Enemy Within and Infinity. DeConnick explain how those huge arcs impact Carol’s journey.

“I think the two events provide direct impetus for her re-launch—and again, that’s literal,” she says, “…but Captain Marvel steps up and pays a heavy price to live that idea of “hero” in “Enemy Within,” then feels disconnected from herself and her fellows in INFINITY then finds a way to reconnect to a part of herself in CAPTAIN MARVEL #17 (the Carol Corps issue) which directly influences the choice she makes that leads to the new number #1.” she told Marvel.com.

The Avenger’s new solo adventures begin with “Higher, Further, Faster, More” in Captain Marvel #1 in stores this Wednesday.

Here’s a look at art by David Lopez from the issue courtesy. Marvel . You can remember Lopez’s work from X-Men with Brian Wood.
