Ben Affleck is taking the reigns of the Dark Knight’s movie future after Justice League.
Affleck will star and direct a new stand-alone Batman film. Warner Brothers Chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara told theater owners at CinemaCon according to The Hollywood Reporter. At the annual meeting of movie chain operators, the Chairman noted the box-office performance of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which introduced Affleck as the new Dark Knight.
“It set up a great foundation for our DC slate, which includes at least 10 movies through 2020,” said Tsujihara, “I’m also exited to know that will be working with Ben Affleck on a stand-alone Batman movie.”
During San Diego Comic-Con last year, THR said Affleck was working with DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns on a Batman solo film and the Oscar winner has written a script according to a more recent report.
The Dark Knight will appear in Suicide Squad on August 5th. Affleck is playing Batman for director Zack Snyder on Justice League Part One & Two.
Warner Brothers has slots for untitled films in 2018 and 2019. Could one of those be for a new Batman film by Affleck?
No word on a potential story but this will likely continue the older Batman inspired by Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns as seen in BvS.

Suicide Squad (Aug. 5, 2016)
The Justice League Part One (Nov. 17, 2017)
