An army of villains against a hero gone mad is just the set up for a one-two punch from writer Tom King in Batman #6.

The I Am Gotham: Epilogue reveals the real rogue behind Hugo Strange and Psycho-Pirate’s unholy alliance and Bruce Wayne forms his own alliance to save Gotham Girl from herself.

King and guest artist Ivan Reis set the stage for the next arc I Am Suicide with a final page that makes you ask if it’s next month already!

Which big bad returns? What does Batman do and what could it mean for the Bat-family?

Before we continue here’s a SPOILER ALERT!

If you have not read Batman #1-6 stop reading now.

Seriously.

OK.

Here it comes.

The epilogue is seven days after the death of Gotham as his sister continues her crusade to save Gotham by taking on a collection of wannabe bad guys while talking to her dead brother. Every time Gotham Girl uses her power she kills herself a little more. In a dramatic move to save her, Batman reveals his true identity and his family tragedy to bond with her and make her accept her brother’s death.

But that’s not all…

Strange appeared to be working for Task Force X director Amanda Waller and General Lane.
On the final page, Batman is face to face with Waller who reveals Strange orchestrated the disasters in the first arc with the help of the Psycho Pirate who then exchanged him for a huge quantity of venom, the drug that gave Bane his powers.

Bane has the Psycho Pirate in Santa Prisca. Batman needs the Pirate to cure Gotham Girl of her madness.

Waller lays it out for Batman like one of her Task Force X missions:

Invade a sovereign country, breaking into a super prison, break a lunatic of Bane’s hands.

Waller says “one might even…it’s SUICIDE.”

Is Batman agreeing to work for and with Waller?

Is Batman forming his own Suicide Squad or will he lead Waller’s current Squad (Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang, Rick Flag) into Bane’s homeland?

Or is Batman his own one-man Suicide Squad?

I Am Suicide begins October 19th.
