Just when you thought the architects of Batman Eternal couldn’t shock you any more…they deliver another huge twist in the next to last chapter of the year-long weekly series.

The mystery villain of Batman Eternal revealed himself to Bruce Wayne in issue 50 and we thought this week’s chapter was how he pulled it off.

But Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV revealed an even bigger villain involved as we head into the grand finale.

Before we continue here’s a SPOILER ALERT!

If you have not read Batman Eternal #50 and 51 stop reading now.

Seriously.

Here it comes.

OK:

The mastermind behind the downfall of Batman, framing of Jim Gordon and burning of Gotham City is….Cluemaster?!

Even Arthur Brown couldn’t believe a low-level criminal like himself could defeat the Batman in this week’s chapter titled Nobody.

This “nobody” played on the fact that a criminal like him wouldn’t even be on the Dark Knight’s radar as the boss behind a massive scheme like the one he pulls off.

Cluemaster gloats as he reveals how he did it while unmasking Batman and learning his true identity. Bruce gets loose for a brutal fight with Brown when Cluemaster pulls a gun and then….

Spoiler Alert #2

Just

Case…

Just as Brown was about to pull the trigger someone reached out of the dark and slices his throat.

“But I’ve always had a plan of my own,” says Lincoln March in his Court of Owls Talon armor!

“Hello brother, are you ready to end this?”

March is the villain behind Snyder’s Court of Owls story that kicked off his New 52 Batman run. March claims to be Thomas Wayne, Jr.

Note: The events of Batman Eternal takes place before what’s happening in Batman: Endgame. Bruce will survive this showdown but what about March?

Batman Eternal #52 arrives next Wednesday then it’s the Batman: Endgame finale before a two month break. How does this lead to the all-new Batman seen on Batman #41 in June?
