A new version of an original X-Man in X-Men: Apocalypse?

Ben Hardy (EastEnders) will play Warren Worthington aka Angel in the sequel according to Jeff Sneider of The Wrap via Screen Rant.

Ben Foster played Worthington in X-Men: The Last Stand. This Angel was the son of the biotech billionaire whose company developed a mutant cure. But the board is clear (to borrow inspiration from Xavier and Magneto’s chess games) since X-Men: Days of Future Past reset the timeline for a fresh start.

In comics Warren was one of the original X-Men who would later be transformed by Apocalypse into Archangel – one of his Horsemen. In battle, Warren had his wings cut but En Sabah Nur gave him metal wings which he could shoot knives and a blue skin as the Angel of Death.

Warren would later rejoin the X-Men and get his wings again. There are two versions of Warren in comics now: The original died and his soul went into the afterlife but a new personality lives inside his body revived by Celestials. He now is a student at the Jean Grey School – the former Xavier school rebuilt and renamed.

But the original original Warren still exists too. Beast brought the original five young students of Xavier into the present and they are now stranded in their future.

X-Men: Apocalypse will introduce new actors in younger versions of Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey and Nightcrawler and is set in the 1980’s. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult returned as younger version of Xavier, Magneto, Mystique and Beast. Bryan Singer is directing.

X-Men: Apocalypse opens May 2016.
