X-MEN We Want Resurrected for RESURRXION

Experience a mutant Spring reawakening in 2017. Marvel announced X-Men Gold, X-Men Blue, Jean Grey, Iceman, Weapon X, Cable, Generation X books as part of ResurrXion, a heroic new beginning in the aftermath of Inhumans of X-Men.

We don’t know the rosters or creative teams but with the theme of new beginnings and resurrection here are the X-Men we want to see rise from the grave and to greatness again.

Cyclops

Yes, he’s dead and we’re learning how it happened in Death of X. Cyke was right. Professor X’s prize student became the new “Magneto” fighting to protect mutants by any means necessary. Scott killed his mentor (he was possessed by the Phoenix) at the time but it’s time for redemption and rebirth. Cyclops is often the public face of the X-Men and one of its greatest leaders even when he was forced to become an extremist. Scott’s younger self is a member of the Champions, so the original X-Man may stay dead. Cyke was the leader of the X-Men Blue team so let nostalgia rule and give him redemption.

Caliban

This meek mutant lives among the Morlock tribe in the tunnels under Manhattan. The pale skinned, bulging eyed mutant fell in love with Kitty Pryde. He has the power to sense and track other mutants. After being abused, the submissive weak mutant agreed to serve Apocalypse who transformed Caliban into a super strong, mutant hunting “hellhound” and one of his Four Horsemen. Caliban eventually broke from the villain’s control and became a member of X-Force and sacrificed himself to save the X-Man Warpath. I would like to see the innocent mutant who once had a crush on Kitty.

Wolverine

I love Laura/X-23 and Old Man Logan but ain’t nothing like the real thing. In Death of Wolverine, Logan was coated in unbreakable adamantium. As mutants and Inhumans fight for genetic survival in IvX could Logan’s healing factor hold the protection mutants need from the Terrigen Cloud allowing both races to live in peace?

Banshee

Sean Cassidy was killed by Vulcan in Deadly Genesis. Sean’s daughter Theresa (Siryn of X-Factor) eventually took her father’s famous code name. With Marvel announcing a new Generation X, we’re nostalgic for the Irish mutant with the sonic scream to come soaring back. Sean and Emma Frost were co-headmasters of the mutant school in Generation X.

Professor X

Xavier’s death in Avengers vs. X-Men was a shocking move that sent Cyclops even further down an extremist path. The professor’s brain and power was stolen by Red Skull. Former rival Magneto is now a major leader of the X-Men. Storm appeared to be guided by her dead mentor in Extraordinary X-Men. Could this mean the Professor is reaching out from the astral plane? The Professor was in a clone body (his original body was infected by the Brood) so could the power to grow a new body be among the stars with the Shi’ar like before? And remember when Tempus went back in time to meet a young Professor X in order to change history and save the team in the future. Did that retro encounter show Xavier a future he could reshape? Inspired by the arrival of the young X-Men, what if a teen Xavier returned in a new body as a student in the school he founded?

Jean Grey

Yes, I’m reversing course. At one point I hoped Jean would stay dead. The Fate of the Phoenix death was legendary. Jean’s second death by a Magneto double in Planet X was brutal, introduced Jean/Phoenix into a higher plane of existence, pushed Scott and Emma together and prevented the nightmarish Here Comes Tomorrow future.  I would love to see the young Jean Grey (brought back by Brian Michael Bendis) go back in time knowing what she knows and in greater control of her powers reshape a brighter future for mutants and even assume the role of headmaster and new face of a new heroic age for the X-Men. Jean Grey will have her own series but who will it star – young Jean from the past or the original?

Which lost X-Men would you like to see return for ResurrXion?
