Will two Marvel super groups go to war in 2020? All signs points to conflict between Marvel’s First Family and the Mutant Family.
Marvel announced the first limited series in the DAWN OF X era. The publisher revealed X-MEN/FANTASTIC FOUR by Chip Zdarsky, Terry and Rachel Dodson and Laura Martin at London Comic Con and first via Newsarama.
The limited series picks up after an invitation seen in HOUSE OF X.
Franklin Richards is the son of Mister Fantastic/Reed and Invisible Woman/Susan but he’s also a mutant. With the X-Men spearheading a more isolated and perhaps elitist stance over non-mutants in this new world order, will this powerful young mutant accept an invitation that could distance him from his parents?
SPOILER ALERT!
Stop reading if you have not read HOUSE OF X, POWERS OF X yet, get to your comic book shop now!
Seriously.
Here it comes:
The X-Men have established a mutant nation Krakoa. All mutants are welcome.
When the X-Men came into conflict with the Fantastic Four over custody of Sabretooth, Scott said to Reed, “Please greet your son for me…and tell him when he’s ready…he has family on Krakoa waiting for him.”
I did have a “oh Cyke went there” reaction when I read that.
With Franklin’s incredible power, is he already been factored into the plans of Xavier, Magneto and Moira X – they just need to convince him to leave his family behind?
Franklin has a future history with the X-Men family. In the DAYS OF FUTURE PAST alternate history, Franklin is the last surviving member of the Fantastic Four and in love with Rachel Summers, daughter of Scott and Jean, is this nightmare future ruled by Sentinels.
Can a mutant as powerful as Franklin be influenced or controlled? It’s an ominous prospect for the Four and the X-Men if he becomes a pawn in a power struggle that’s only growing with a more assertive mutant race.
FF fans will recall Zdardsky relaunched MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE starring Thing and Human Torch. The Dodsons are veterans artists of X-Men runs and classic covers.
The X-MEN/FANASTIC FOUR limited series arrives in February 2020.
