The future of the X-Men movie franchise is making us feel nostalgic!
X-Men: Apocalypse is set in the 1980’s and introduces one of the team’s greatest enemies and new mutants.
Would you be ready for another X-film set in the 90’s with more of those villains and X-Men of the Chris Claremont/Jim Lee/Marc Silvestri/Scott Lobdell/Fabian Nicieza era?
This week we saw first looks at Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Alexandra Shipp as Storm sporting her Mohawk in costumes in Entertainment Weekly that make the actors look like they mutated right from the comic books.
The cinematic debut of En Sabah Nur marks the first time we’ve seen a heavy hitter X-villain besides Magneto (Ian McKellen, Michael Fassbender) who is truly evil. Olivia Munn in her ninja uniform and armed with her psychic knife is a magnificent sight to behold. It’s making us hope the X-franchise keeps mutating.
Here are five more villains who ould menace the X-Men in future films:
Shadow King! Amahl Farouk was the first evil mutant Charles Xavier ever faced. A being of pure psychic energy, Farouk took different human forms over the decades but imagine the images of a psi-war on the psychic plane as Farouk and X-Men telepaths like Xavier, Jean and Betsy do battle armed with an arsenal of psionic weaponry.
Bastion! Even Sentinels mutate. Master Mold (the sentient robot who produced the original Sentinels) and Nimrod (an evolved Sentinel from the future) fused in the present to create the most powerful Sentinel of all. Bastion took human form and even formed an unholy alliance with the Purifiers, an army of mutant hating extremists.
Reavers! Cyborgs have all have a beef with Wolverine! Lady Deathstrike (seen in X2: X-Men United) was a cyborg with adamantium nails who hated Wolverine who recruited former Hellfire Club soldiers gutted by Logan and turned them into her cyborg hit squad.
Omega Red! Back in his Team X days with Sabretooth, Logan went on a mission to Cold War Russia to investigate the U.S.S.R.’s Weapon X program. Years later Arkady Rossovich would come back with a vengeance. Omega Red was a cyborg with long tentacles and power to emit pheremones with a “death touch.”
Mister Sinister! Nathaniel Essex was a renegade scientist from the same time period of Charles Darwin who discovered a slumbering Apocalypse in between his regeneration periods. En Sabah Nur turned Essex into a powerhouse villain. Essex became obsessed with mutant genes, in particular those of Scott Summers and Jean Grey who he believed could create the most powerful mutant of all, a weapon he could use against his master Apocalypse. Sinister is behind one of the most horrific events in X-history. Essex tasked Gambit with recruiting the most vicious mutants into The Marauders then he ordered to wipe out the peaceful Morlocks. Several X-Men were severely hurt trying to defend the reclusive tribe from the squad of killer mutant mercs. For Essex, it was all in the name of his twisted science.
If Fox does more X-Men movies, what villains do you want to see on the big screen next?
