The Wrath of the Villains is coming then Gotham returns for a second half of season two.
Producers confirmed Azrael is coming and are giving hints about how the warrior of vengeance will be portrayed on the before Batman prequel series.
In the Fall finale, the Order of St. Dumas failed in their plot to seize Gotham City and destroy the last surviving Wayne. The Order’s Theo Galavan died.
Azrael is a title passed down in the brotherhood. This “Angel of Death” enforces The Order’s agenda and executes its vengeance.
In the comics, an adult Batman faced Azrael (Jean Paul Valley) who became an independent anti-crime crusader and even was Batman.
How will the Azrael be different from his comic book counterpart?
“In many respects, Azrael will have many of the hallmarks and traits that we know from the comics,” executive producer John Stephens told ComicBook.com. “But it will have a brand-new twist upon that character; the way we’re going to bring that character into being on our show will be different than anything we’ve seen in the comics.”
Even with the shift, Stephens added, “it will be identifiable as Azrael in all respects, just a version of him we’ve not seen before, which is the point of doing these! How can we do the character with a fresh twist?”
Mister Freeze and Professor Hugo Strange are stalking the second half of season two, too.
Gotham returns February 29th.
