Gal Gadot is playing a DC icon, Amazon warrior and the link to the future of the DC movie universe?
The Israeli actress is playing Diana Prince in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25, 2016 and soon starts filming Wonder Woman then Justice League, Part One hitting screens in 2017.
Wonder Woman will be the first comic book superhero to headline her own film in decades and first in this new age where Marvel and DC duke it out for box-office supremacy.
“She plays a super-important part,” Snyder told Entertainment Weekly,” In a lot of ways, she’s the gateway drug to the rest of the Justice League.”
How will Diana Prince lead fanboys and girls into the expanding DC Comics movies?
Here are four theories of why Wonder Woman is critical to future of the Justice League and more DC movies:
Ambassador of Themyscira aka Paradise Island:
Wonder Woman’s home is an island descended from ancient Greek mythology. Diana was upgraded to the God of War and daughter of Ares in recent comics. The Amazon homeland is the modern world’s gateway to DC’s vast tapestry of myths and legends. From here, filmmakers could unleash Ares, Circe and rival Amazons like Artemis on Diana and her Justice League teammates.
Next Stop: Atlantis:
Diana’s connection to Greek legends makes her a perfect ally of Aquaman (Jason Momoa) of Atlantis. Both are royals and outsiders fighting for their secret kingdoms and having to learn to trust Clark, Bruce and other heroes of the larger world. Aquaman and Wonder Woman have even shared kisses and he confessed his attraction for her after accidentally becoming trapped in her Golden Lasso.
Darkseid’s Doorstep:
Let’s face it, Darkseid is THE super villain to have in the Justice League movie. The Lord of Apokolips invaded Paradise Island and attempted to conquer the Amazons as a first strike in his bid to seize Earth. Diana’s mythical island is the perfect ground zero for an invasion sending Diana to rally the League against Darkseid’s forces.
A.R.G.U.S. and the Steve Trevor Factor:
Diana’s great love is Air Force hero Steve Trevor in World War II and in the modern take on Trevor, he’s an agent of A.R.G.U.S.(Advanced Research Group for Uniting Super-Humans). Chris Pine is rumored to be in talks for the role and he looks just like Trevor. Diana could be an A.R.G.U.S. agent who uncovers potential conspiracies against super-humans. (A.R.G.U.S. and Trevor will likely interact with Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) leader of Task Force X in Suicide Squad.) If the movies follow the New 52 comics, Trevor is smitten, dumped and turns ruthless after Diana falls for Superman leading to a powerhouse triangle on screen.
