Two big moments in Wonder Woman: Year One by Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott.
The Wonder Woman DC Rebirth began with two stories alternating each issue: this origin story by Rucka and Scott and a modern day story The Lies by Rucka and Liam Sharp.
In Year One, Diana joined Steve Trevor in the world of man. Diana used her super powers to help stop a terrorist attack. Fans saw Diana deflect bullets, lift a tank and communicate with animals.
In this week’s issue a classic villain makes its DC Rebirth debut and Rucka gives a clue about Diana’s life with the Amazons after clarifying her sexual orientation earlier this year.
Before we continue here’s a SPOILER ALERT!
If you have not ready Wonder Woman #12 stop reading now.
Seriously.
OK.
Here it comes.
First: lost love.
Diana made a powerful sacrifice in order to bring Steve home. She can never return to her island home. As Steve and Diana grow closer she confesses someone special she left behind on Themyscira named Kasia.
Rucka said it logical that Diana was queer.
“It’s supposed to be a paradise. You’re supposed to be able to live happily. You’re supposed to be able – in a context where one can live happily, and part of what an individual needs for that happiness is to have to have a partner – to have a fulfilling, romantic and sexual relationship. And the only options are women.” Rucka told Comicosity.
Will fans learn more of Diana’s relationship with Kasia? Will she turn up in the series again?
War:
Diana, Steve, Etta Candy and Barbara Minerva are trying to uncover the truth about the Sear Group, the terrorists all with ominous looking trees on them. Diana uses the Golden Perfect to learn the terrorists are under the influence of a bioweapon fueling their violence.
Dr. Minerva uses her linguist stills to see the clues revealing the Sear Group is the Ares Group when an explosion rips through the headquarters.
Ares emerges from the fire and destruction holding Steve by the neck with a message for Diana.
“I have been waiting aeons to meet you.”
Ares, the Greek God of War and iconic Wonder Woman villain makes his DC Rebirth debut looking more powerful than ever. Can Diana defeat a God?
The Truth begins in the next issue then Year One concludes January 11, 2017.
