Logan got deep fried in Wolverine #1 by Paul Cornell and Alan Davis. It appears when this alien weapon of tremendous power gets into the hands of a regular Joe it turns a daddy dearest into a possessed daddy deadliest. Now a little kid is running around New York City with that super weapon. What will Logan have to do stop the reign of terror? We’ll have to keep reading to learn the origin of this weapon but Cornell delivered an ominous tease about the future of Logan’s solo book and this weapon.
When asked by a fan on Comic Book Resources if that weapon will have significance beyond this initial story arc writer Cornell responded:
“Ohhhhhh yes. Yes, yes yes yes yes! So very yes!”
Nick Fury Jr. and S.H.I.E.L.D. will be appearing in the series. Cornell explains it’s part of expanding Logan’s supporting cast.
“You’ll be meeting a lot of new friends and allies, including a whole bunch of new regulars in #3, professionals in the super hero field. And Nick Fury is in this title in a kind of buddy movie way. Him and Logan have a ‘kid/old man’ thing going that I really enjoy. Wolverine works best as a voice when he’s got someone to play off. As I have someone say, he’s actually a very sociable guy. That’s why he’s on all those teams. That’s not a joke. People say he’s ‘a loner’, but where’s the evidence for that? The company of people grounds him, it’s something he seeks out, because otherwise he’d be this weird being rather than the ordinary guy he likes to be.”
SHIELD should be very interested in the weapon introduced in Wolverine #1. Maybe Abigail Brand of SWORD will be asked to consult on the case? Don’t tell Beast but I’ve always thought Logan and Brand would make a hot couple.
