Wolverine creator Len Wein says he’s received more royalties from The Dark Knight Trilogy that all the X-Men movies combined. The legendary writer creator Wolverine in Incredible Hulk #181. When Wein relaunched All-New, All-Different X-Men in the early 1970’s he co-created Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus and made Logan part of the revamped team.

But it’s an important supporting character in the Batman family that’s meant more checks!

Wayne Industries scientist Lucius Fox (played by Morgan Freeman) was created by Wein in 1979.

“It’s less frustrating for the characters I created at DC. Money comes with the anonymity, at least. I have contracts that guarantee me some small piece of the action. Lucius Fox has earned me a great deal more money than Wolverine ever has, although I will say that for the latest film Marvel did send me a nice check,” Wein tells The L.A. Times Hero Complex.

At San Diego Comic Con Hugh Jackman gave Wein credit and thanked the writer for his creating Wolverine.

“It’s gratifying. To the best of my memory, he’s the only person to portray one of my characters that has ever done that. He’s done it a couple of times now. He wants people to realize where his character comes from and the debt he owes and I’m thrilled by that. He’s one of the most gracious men I’ve ever met.”

Here’s the Hero Complex link for more of his interview.

Wein was the original editor on Alan Moore’s Watchmen series. I interviewed Wein last year about his role in Before Watchmen.
