Get ready to meet the worst X-Man ever.
Bailey Hoskins is the star of an upcoming limited series by Max Bemis and Michael Walsh. This will be the first serial Marvel work for Say Anything lead singer turned comic book writer.
X-Men: Worst X-Man Ever is the five-part story of an outsider among outsiders.
High school is hard enough for introverts who don’t fit in but things get worse when you’re a mutant.
Bemis explains what happens when this teen’s power kicks in.
“The whole idea is that he gets isolated quickly. Stuff goes awry and he’s immersed in a way where it’s not like he’s like a normal kid and gets to keep his friends and he gets to keep his family relations. It’s all thrown out of whack and he’s immersed immediately.” Bemis told Marvel.com.
At first he’s really excited and when he’s there, stuff gets really heavy immediately. But it won’t be giving too much away to say the impetus behind the whole thing is a normal teenager finding out that he has powers. He has these normal parents who have just lived off the grid their entire lives and he has this moment—it’s very much a nod to Harry Potter—where he’s just like, “What? I’m a mutant, oh my god this is the coolest thing in the world,” and then it gets heavy. And then he has no way out. Not that it’s a bad thing to be an X-Man, but it’s definitely difficult. It’s definitely not what it was cracked up to be for him.”
Bemis clarified this story is out of continuity and says his goal is to make this the “ultimate entry-level X-Men book.”
Bailey’s story may not be in continuity and we don’t know his powers yet but here are our candidates for worst X-Man ever from the mutant mythos.
